This is the last meetup of this year. I will be giving away two books. So try to make it to this meetup.
Presentation #1
GIT for Ruby on Rails Development by Scott Chacon
This presentation is geared towards beginners to GIT. Learn how to GIT quickly.
Scott Chacon is the author of the Ruby/Git library, co-author of the Grit library (which runs
GitHub), produces a free screencast on Git at www.gitcasts.com, is the maintainer of the Git
Capistrano module, presented at RailsConf 2008 and blogs at jointheconversation.org.
Presentation #2:
A Guide to Hacking Rails Internals This talk was given at RailsConf Europe 2008 in Berlin Germany. This was a three hour tutorial
This is the second hour and continuation of the presentation that was given at September Silicon Valley Ruby Meetup.
While the convention over configuration pattern that Rails exemplifies gets much attention, Rails' incredible extensibility through Ruby is often-times ignored. This talk will help developers understand, extend and bend Rails' internal code, for those real-life problems when the out-of-the-box
functionality that Rails provides is not enough.
Time permitting, this talk will provide an overview of:
* Ruby meta-programming techniques
* Rails abstractions, idioms & mixins
* Rails structure & initialization
* A tour of the Rails class loader
* Practical tips on cleaning up your codebase using the Dependency loader
Pradeep Elankumaran – Director of Research & Development at Intridea Inc
A former computational scientist, Pradeep was writing sophisticated astrophysical simulations in Ruby well before the language became fashionable. Since then, he has been working with and thinking a lot about social networks, machine learning and applying mathematical models to social data. At Intridea, he's responsible for researching and developing emerging web technologies, launching new products and writing beautiful code. Recently, he's been checking out Erlang and has been spending lots of time hacking away deep in the guts of the Rails framework.
Refreshments:
Pizza and soda will be provided by Zepho Inc A Ruby on Rails Consulting Company . Please RSVP so that we can get a headcount.
