How to find new libraries and gems

  • Aug 29, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Let's have a group discussion about how to research and choose additional capabilities (core, stdlib, gems). This is a member suggested meetup.

One of the biggest challenges I'm finding is that, given some new need for the app I'm writing, there seem to be ten places to look for an existing solution, and twenty results, and zero help choosing. Some urls, some guidance, some war stories from all this might fill a meeting with fun.

Watch How to Find Valuable Gems presentation before the meetup.

Do you already know the Ruby Toolbox for this? It's a surprisingly good resource for what you want.

Relatedly - I'm surprised at how little weight he puts on Ruby toolbox. Recommends it "for beginners", completely fails to mention the various measurements of activity.

Noah, that's where you can share your knowledge with us. I have encountered a few things that the group might find helpful. Let's discuss our experiences during the meet up.
