Announcing the first Rails Hackfest that is focused on building a useful Rails app. Anyone who wants to learn about Rails can attend. We will use the white board to design our database, UI and discuss about the mini-project. Then we will work in small teams and develop the website. Newbies please try to pair up with someone who has some experience.

An extremely interesting experience (my first "rails hacking session" after many months of studying Ruby and Rails), where we attacked Rails development from the ground up (no scaffolding, no plugins) but still using design discipline (eg, Restful routes) to avoid chaos.
Bala was outstanding, listening to all ideas but still keeping the project simple and feasible. The interaction between participants was remarkable: a continuous flow of thoughts, advice, and yes, even sharing the moments of frustration or laughter.
Five hours elapsed without almost noticing. The beautiful setting at Carnegie Mellon helped to create a magical afternoon.

This meetup was excellent. Bala did a great job organizing the event, keeping us focused, answering questions. The people were very helpful and friendly. Can't wait for the next one.

Usually not all who RSVP "yes" show up. Let's have some fun hacking with Rails.
