I love Beverly Cleary's Ramona series. As a child, I loved Ramona and identified with so many of her misadventures. Today, I read them as stories of an entire family, and marvel at Cleary's honest and compelling depiction of a whole range of all-ages themes through Ramona's eyes.
Ernest Hemingway, Maya Angelou
Morgaine (Morgan Le Fay) in Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon -- strong, complex, morally ambiguous and yet consistently sympathetic
Emma Goldman -- she had ambitious, often outrageous, ideas, and a fascinating life story
Gosford Park -- like a good book, I can experience it over and over and always find something new to notice and appreciate.
I'm a book lover and sometimes college instructor living in the South Bay. I tend to favor books by contemporary women writers from varied cultural backgrounds. Most recently, I finished Anita Amirrezvani's Equal of the Sun.
