Let's take a hike!
Last year, we headed up the Hudson and checked out the arts and museum scene of Beacon NY. This year, let's get off at Cold Spring NY and take a hike!
No, not Breakneck Ridge -- because that would hurt way too much, but its often overlooked sibling Bull Hill / Mt Taurus which supposedly offers the same fresh air, sweeping views, outdoor adventure, etc ... for slightly less effort. We likey.
This will be a laid-back hike. We will focus on being out in nature and enjoying the view over trying to keep a certain pace. However, the hike is still moderately strenuous (straight uphill in the beginning), so you need to be in decent shape and need to know your abilities.
Meet by 9:15a at Grand Central in the Main Hall in front of escalators to Met Life Building. We will take the 9:50a Metro North Hudson Line train ($26.50 round trip) and arrive Cold Spring before 11:00a. Before leaving the station, we will take a restroom break.
We will take a short walk from the station to the trail head. There are a number of trails offering different vistas and point of interest (see map). We will decide a route together based on our interest and energy level. Both will involve a steep 1400 feet ascent in the beginning and take about 4 hours to complete.
After our hike, we can get cleaned up and grab an early dinner in Cold Spring before getting back on the train. We an decide then if we feel like a quick pizza or sit-down meal. The train departs every hour i.e. 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, etc.
WHAT TO BRING
