A great session for programmers and designers! I was at the Tuesday session and thought Chet's presentation was excellent because it was not only full of great technical information (code and demos) but also some very informative material on the rules/principles for cartooning/animation and how they apply to GUI applications UI design. This is something that I have not seen before and very valuable for those exploring/using RIA and what differentiates an RIA from a regular web app.

Programmers will learn easy to use settings for adding style to your apps without dependency on graphic applications like Photoshop. Designers will discover the built-in effects and styles inherent to the Flex SDK to streamline your layouts and designs. Everyone will be able to network and understand the different perspectives of design and development.

Explore the new and improved animation engine in Flex 4 that makes it possible to create richer and more dynamic applications. Come see how you can take advantage of the new effects and functionality.

Speaker - Chet Haase (blog, twitter) - Flex SDK Engineer. Also see: Chet's Effects in Flex 4 video on Adobe TV

This evening will include:
- license give-away !!
- future session planning survey results and schedule for discussion

Sponsors - roundpeg

Doors open at 6:30 - pizza, beer and networking

@Ryan - parking is free in the Adobe building. Just tell the guard you're there for the SilvaFUG meeting. They'll direct you where to park and how to get in.

Excellent presentation! Could we please invite Chet back for more presentations on effects and RIA. I see there are a lot on his blog to fill a lot more presentations. :)

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with parking (ie tons of free parking, or $ of parking, etc)? Thanks!

    •  Outstanding presentation. Chet is a very engaging speaker. His demonstrations and explanations were brilliantly clear. I've never used Flex, a friend asked me to attend. My eyes have been opened to a new world.
    •  MORE PLEASE! :) I think the "Helping Developers develop a Design Aesthetic" stuff is completely awesome, and I'd love to see more of the same/similar.
    •  One of the best meetings yet. Chet is an excellent speaker, and I hope he'll come back in the future when he has other talks.
    •  Chet was a great speaker. The animation part was a little extended for me but that because I'm a creative director of flash animation projects already. I think he probably needed to take more time since it was to a developer community. Over all Chet had amazing research and depth on the subject. I look forward to more Chet talks.
    •  Great presentations!
    •  Much of the content of this meeting was pretty standard in regards to Flex effects, but the additional slant as to "why" you do what you "should" do was very valuable.
    •  I learned a lot. Chet is a good presenter.
    •  extra points for beer and pizza ^_^ put in the right mood to absorb all the good stuff chet had to share.
    •  Very good speaker. He understood his audience (programmers, not designers) and presented the information on our terms. I really liked the tables; it makes eating and laptops more enjoyable.
    •  excellent presentation and great examples. We should have more of this kind of training topic.
    •  I appreciated Chet's distillation RE what he believes to be the 12 most salient points to providing user friendly, non-antagonistic animation in a user interface. While he admits that not all of the points have the strongest cross-over to gui programming, he did underscore the benefit of an engaging non-intrusive ui via quick, concise, and eye catching animations. Thanks, Chet!
    •  I found the presentation very interesting and the information will likely be very useful! Chet was an excellent presenter!
    •  Very good session on a slightly unusual and difficult subject. Surely inspired me to employ effects and transitions in my application to improve user experience!
