Lunch at Cafe Salivation: explore creative vegetarian cuisine...

Greetings to you - fellow vegetarians, vegans, foodies in general or just those interested in a combination of good food and company! As your assistant Singapore Vegetarian Meetup co-ordinator (thanks Joe for putting your trust in me!) I do hope that you're able to come along for our next event, on Sunday 28th June. The venue is Cafe Salivation - a place that I was fortunate to be able to review for the Singapore Vegetarian Food Guide and was extremely impressed with - most of us will probably have tried Chinese vegetarian or Indian vegetarian food which is so common in Singapore, but how about something new and innovative?

So what's Cafe Salivation all about? Here's what we put in the food guide after reviewing it!

"A new and refreshing concept in vegetarian dining from the Raj Restaurant group - more upmarket than many cafes but very welcoming and unpretentious, come here to indulge in both popular and innovative creations from snacks such as the 'desi' chutney sandwich, soya potato croquettes and scrambled paneer on toast to main dishes such as the mexican wraps and a selection of no-meat burgers - patties made from kidney beans, paneer cheese, spinach or soya - all delicious in their own way! Don't miss the tasty lasagna either or the wide variety of mocktail coolers. Hearty, well prepared food!"

Itinerary:

- 11:30am: Meet at Farrer Park MRT (At Exit G - for Serangoon Road)
- 11:40am: Walk to Cafe Salivation on Syed Alwi Road (it's just opposite the Mustafa Centre and a 5 minute walk from Farrer Park MRT)
- 11:45am: Arrive at Cafe Salivation and indulge in delectable, innovative vegetarian treats!

We'll be going for the a la carte menu - the food and drinks are very reasonably priced and a good meal is unlikely to cost more than $15 per head.

Look forward to seeing you soon!

Though the location was pretty far from my residence & I dont mind the distance, food was great! Just didnt have much energy & chance to make more friends, that's the down side for me. And hey, Neil looks younger & more handsome in person! :D

Oh yeah, I'd love to have a copy of the vegetarian food guide!

It's a big turn out and only can focus of talking to those sitting near to me. However, it is a nice experience. The food is nice, initially have an expection of having an indian cruise since it is run by Raj Restaurant, well it is so western. However the food tase good, I have a chick pea salad and Mezza Platter. Great!

Nice place except a little hot. A bit difficult to find the place cos I only remembered the cafe's name and the instruction "near Farrer MRT" and "opposite Mustafa"! Hee... so I ended walking up and down mustafa trying to locate the cafe till I got a fren to check for me on the internet. But the food looks real good and the serving of the food is very fast. Nice and friendly people at the meet-up. Will try to make it next time and make sure I have enough time to eat! :-)

I felt good surrounded by people who appreciated eating vegetarian. As I've told others, I feel kind of lonely being vegetarian because all around are meat eaters. So it was good to have so many who enjoy a vegetarian meal around me. Everyone was friendly and easy to talk with. I did wish there was a way we could exchange seats , say, two times during the meal so that we get to meet and talk with different people. We could carry our plate and drink and switch places. This is only a suggestion. People could be encouraged to do this as and when they feel like it. no compulsion. Just encouraged to do so, just once or twice

The food was good as well and I'm glad I went to the meetup. In fact, Im looking forward to the next meetup, already.

This was my first meetup session and it was fabulous. It had all the ingredients for a good time: good food, good company, and family was around (my wife and son joined me). Made some new friends and we joked a lot. The food was really good. And the icing were the drinks: the concoctions the restaurant created simply went well with us. Overall, a high five to the organising team!

I've just got confirmation that all items on their menu apart from the spinach burger and the soya potato croquettes can be prepared without onion and garlic on request. No probs at all!

Am trying to find out which options are available for strict vegetarians who do not eat onion and garlic. I've contacted Cafe Salivation and hope to hear from them tomorrow. I'll keep you posted!

I'll be bringing some spare copies of the VSS S'pore Veg Food Guide for those who might be interested (http://www.vegetarian-society.org/?q=node/1047#) to save postage and the hassle of mailing it.
