May 26: Recap of meetup at Gurdwara Sahib Silat Road / Whatever Cafe

Hi everyone!

16 members (and their friends!) attended the recent meetup on Saturday at the Gurdwara Sahib Silat Road and the post-lunch drinks at Whatever Cafe.

At getting to the Sikh temple, all of us wore scarves on our heads (photo album of the meetup here: http://vegetarian.mee... ). It looked pretty good actually, all of us with our colorful scarves on our heads. :-)

Gary (a fellow member) gave us a tour of the temple, explaining the significance of the many beautiful structures in the temple, as well as the many rituals that are practiced by Sikhs. The temple was really peaceful and is a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle right outside.

After the tour, we tried some of the temple food at the kitchen, which unfortunately, was almost all finished by the time we arrived. The tea at the temple though was *excellent*. The singing of verses from the Sikh scriptures filled the air, and it was easy to forget that we're no longer in Singapore.

The group then visited the Whatever cafe at Keong Saik Road to have post-lunch drinks and food (for those who didn't eat at the temple). The cafe's decor and ambience was great, but the drinks/food was so-so. The staff on duty at the cafe that day were a little unfriendly (perhaps shocked that such a large group came unannounced), but it didn't really matter. The group's overwhelming sense of cheer and humour engulfed the cafe and I don't think anyone left without
feeling happy. :-)

Big thanks to everyone who attended - I hope everyone had a great time at the temple and at the cafe. And if you haven't already, please check out the photos from the meetup here:
