I became vegan at age 40 two years ago after reading "Diet for a New America", by John Robbins. I cried as I read it. I had already been a vegetarian before that, but I became an "instant vegan" after reading only a few chapters. I cried as I read some parts of it, too. The statistics in the book, which links the eating of meat to diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and stroke, are also very impressive.
