Tango Class (Feb/Mar 2014): Foundation - Level 1 *Registration Open*

TANGO FOUNDATION LEVEL 1

When: Thursdays, 27 Feb - 27 Mar 2014 (five sessions)

Time: 7.30pm - 8.30pm

Fee per person: $85 (pre-registered & paid by 19 Feb), $95 (at the door)

Leaders Package: $160 for two participants who pre-register with a male friend

Class Size: 12 - 14 pax

Suitable for first-timers and returning beginners needing a refresher. As the learning will be conducted progressively over the five weeks, participants are required to begin from Session 1.

Signing up with a partner is NOT required.

Footwear: sturdy heels with strap for women (no mules/wedges), no-grip shoes for men.

Together, Kim & Aizad have clocked-in countless hours of Tango training in Singapore and around the region at local classes, group workshops, international festivals, and private lessons by Tango masters; to sharpen their individual technique and partner-work. They performed for the Kuala Lumpur Tango Festivals in March 2013 and 2012.

They have also organised Tango events including the recent TANGOBLITZ Show & Party (Grand Milonga) at Esplanade Recital Studio in May 2013, presented by the 6th Singapore Tango Madness Festival in collaboration with Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. They have hosted milongas in various prime venues in Singapore - dance bars at Clark Quay and Dempsey Road, a boutique studio at Bukit Timah Road, and a Grand Milonga at Zouk Club for the 5th Singapore Tango Festival Madness in May 2012; with Aizad as the DJ. They are the organisers, hosts, and presenters of the weekly Milonga del Sur milonga at Abrazos Club (Singapore) every Thursday night.

Aizad's DJ work includes the 1st Singapore International Tango Festival - Welcome Milonga in Oct 2013 at Raffles Town Club, 6th Singapore Tango Madness Festival - Welcome Milonga in May 2013, 5th Singapore Tango Festival Madness - Grand Milonga in May 2012 at Zouk, Singapore Tango Weekend Festivals in July and Oct 2012, 7th Bali Tango Festival 2012 Gala Night, 1st Saigon Tangoblitz 2012 and TANGOXPOSED 2011 Gala Night in Ho Chi Minh City, and local milongas in Singapore since January 2011 ('Mid-Week Milonga' @ Danz Boutique, 'San Telmo' Milonga @ Abrazos Club, and TANGUEANDO@AZZUCAR! in Clark Quay).

FOUNDATION SYLLABUS

Level 1 (Week 1 - 5): The Absolute Fundamentals of the Tango Walk, Embrace & Basic Rhythm

Level 2 (Week 6 - 10): Understanding the Importance of Weight Changing, Navigational Skill & Basic Musicality during the dance

Level 3 (Week 11 - 15): Development of Different Tango Walking Systems, Grounding Techniques, and an Ear for Tango Orchestras

Level 4 (Week 16 - 20): Possibilities & Outcomes in Natural Movement through Walking & Weight Changing

Level 5 (Week 21 - 25): More Possibilities & Outcomes, Interpreting Melody vs Rhythm, plus an Introduction to Tango Salon

Upon completion of Foundation, participants would have been introduced to basic lead-and-follow skills for social dancing with fellow beginners in a milonga (party for Tango social dancing).
