June Book Club-Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

The best American novel to emerge from World War I, A Farewell to Arms is the unforgettable story of an American ambulance driver on the Italian front and his passion for a beautiful English nurse. Hemingway's frank portrayal of the love between Lieutenant Henry and Catherine Barkley, caught in the inexorable sweep of war, glows with an intensity unrivaled in modern literature, while his description of the German attack on Caporetto--of lines of fired men marching in the rain, hungry, weary, and demoralized--is one of the greatest moments in literary history. A story of love and pain, of loyalty and desertion, A Farewell to Arms, written when he was thirty years old, represents a new romanticism for Hemingway.

For those who wanted the recipe for the dessert, here's the link:

I didn't change much except that I didn't use much salt in the caramel (and I only had regular salt, not sea salt).

Thank you beth for responding! I will try to see about next time -- he's funny and divorced twice, if it matters. If you DO discuss it, please let me know! Thx so much! Al

I may be a bit late depending on when my son's little league game ends, but I will be bringing a dessert.

I didn't read this, as I was doing report cards but my uncle would like to check it out. He's very recently retired from working with the American embassy and is buying a place on the west side. He wants a book group. I told him how fun this one can be. Is it possible for him to come to check it out?
