Halloween Costume Party at Kathryn's House - Kid friendly

I had a Halloween Costume Party last year, and it was a fabulous event.  We would love to do it again. Please feel free to review pictures from last year.  This is kid friendly, and my son who will have just turned 11 will be there.  Following is a picture of our 2012 Witches' Cauldron....

You do not have to have a costume, but it will definitely make it more fun. Feel free to bring a pumpkin and either carving or decorating gear for your pumpkin.  We can get pictures of our pumpkins later in the evening.  Bring a dish and a beverage....it would help if you post what you will bring in your RSVP.  (If you can, please remember I am allergic to onions.  If you end up having it in something, let me know or post it....please.)  I will have to come up with a new "brew" for the group.  The grill will be available.  I will have some brats to grill.  I can also make a fire in the firepit on the deck if people would like.   Of course, we also always have the two levels to mingle.  This meetup is in conjunction with Energizers, so I am limiting the number so as to not get too many people between the two groups.  I will max at about 70 people total.

Things to bring:

Yourself!!! (in costume if you can, but not required for entry.)  ha ha

Pumpkin and pumpkin carving decorating kit (optional)

A dish to share (or you could sign up for staples such as Halloween plates, cups or napkins...it all helps.)

Beverage

....and then be ready to share in the fun and laughter of the evening.

Happy Halloweeeeeeen....

Kathryn (and Braden)

and Dwight

Kathryn, I was today at your place, but did not find the scarf... Maria has play at school on Friday night, so we will be close to your house. Can we stop by?
Or may be you can bring the scarf to the office of EAGLE school? I will send you the address if you can. Thanks.

    • Kathryn

Sorry, Olga. Was at class and have been out of town. Can you privately send your phone number?

      Scarf is out...

Kathryn, is the scarf fluffy & purple on one side and has colorful designs on the other? If so, then this is Maria's scarf. She did not know that she lost it before your e-mail, now she cannot find it. We can pick it up tomorrow around 4pm. Our school is 2 minutes from your house and I will be picking my girls up tomorrow at 4pm. Can we come? Thank you.

Thank you very much, Kathryn. We live not close to you, somewhere near Hoyt Park, but girls go to a private school at Fitchburg and it is very close to your house. On Wednesday we can stop by your place between 4 and 4:30pm and take the scarf.

I just had some of the leftover adult punch, , & I have a finger floating in it. :-) the gelatine really works well for holding the hand together.

I still have two unclaimed bowls - one that is orange plastic and rectangular and one that is orange plastic with bats on it., From last year I still have a raincoat and a yellow spoon. From some event (Valentine's?), I have a metal bowl with little black marks in it.

Wow! As always, Kat, you make it look easy to host such a huge gathering of diverse people, and while you're in the process of moving, no less. Thanks again! :)

We might not make it after all, or will be there late.

    October 26, 2013

How long is this party going to last (until what time, approximately), and what, if anything, is still needed? We may not make it but are trying--depends in part on how long it runs.

    October 26, 2013

  • Mark R.

Not sure how long the party will last, but is anyone planning on going to see VO5 after at Crystal Corner?

    October 23, 2013

Some people went out last year after the Valentine's Day party. I am sure there will be some takers. :)

Look to the right when you see this and it will tell you if there are spots available. If not, join the waitlist, there's always a last minute drop for one or two.

Does anyone by any chance have a video of some kind that can be set up and then feed into the TV or some screen? I have been trying to get access to one and haven't been able to yet. If so, could I get it before the event starts. You are welcome to set it up yourself if you have one. I would be pretty excited if we could come up with this.

    October 25, 2013

  • Kathryn

I will email address and directions again later tonight. FYI to all guests and those on waitlist....please make sure you can get your emails from Meetup, even if you just want to do it temporarily to get the address and then turn it off later.

    October 25, 2013

  • Ken

Kat, if anyone wants to contribute money, can we do that? Hosting parties of this size are expensive. The host always spends 30 hours getting ready, spends money on last minute items, and then spends hours cleaning up after. That's a lot. Food at these events is usually covered pretty well. If someone wants to contribute money instead (or in addition to), is that okay? Maybe there could be a Party Contribution Pumpkin or something, where people could donate if they chose to.

That would be really nice. Thanks for asking, Ken.

Got all the ingredients for cup of dirt. Decided to stick with chocolate pudding only since the ice cream would melt. Kids found the gummy body parts at Tarjay so they should be fun. All 3 of us are looking forward to this meet up!

    • Kathryn

I am glad, Karen. We look forward to having you and your kids. Please be aware, I won't be able to monitor all kids. There are a LOT of eyes around, though. And my son is the "kids' host"....which is great experience for him. :)

      October 25, 2013

  • Karen

I also think the pumpkin contribution bucket is a good idea. Do you want dome help setting up. We can all help clean up.

    2 · October 25, 2013

    • Ken

Thanks, Karen and Jose. I was thinking even just 50 cents or a dollar. Or nothing. Whatever each person wants, all optional, with no pressure. But the option to do it if someone wanted to.

      October 25, 2013

    • Kathryn

I would love the help. Thanks for asking Karen. I love that you can throw a big event like this but you are not alone. Last year people helped greet people, showed them where to put coats, etc. I was impressed. And it made me comfortable with doing it again. :)

My computer has been down, and I haven't been able to respond or pull up address for Halloween party. Could you please repost address for me. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Janet and Abby

Will bring a kid friendly desert and fruit.

    October 25, 2013

  • Kathryn

I went grocery shopping tonight and realized I forgot the crackers to go with the cheese. Silly me. I have swiss and cheddar cheese. Could anyone bring crackers? Still have to get Halloween plates, cups, napkins, etc from Party City. Should be a fun event. I really would appreciate if people could write what they will bring....that way we will not have 5 of the same thing. We do have over 70 people coming, so having people identify what they plan of bringing really helps the others. I have the other food I mentioned. Don't forget pumpkins and pumpkin carving equipment if you want to make jack-o-lanterns. We will do those in the beginning. Tess and Eric were pretty awesome last year...did them with head lights on. :) Pretty cool seeing all of the pumpkins lined up afterwards.

Can anyone tell I am in super planning mode for this party! I think we will have fun!!! One more thing....we need about 5 miniature pumpkins. If someone can't bring them, I will get some tomorrow. Please see notes below also. Making my little agenda. ha ha

    October 25, 2013

  • Kathryn

I need a few of these if people could bring them just to the event: I need 3-5 brooms, kitchen or "witch" type brooms. I need some baseball bats. I need some balls, ie. soccer. Can anyone bring some of these? All of these will be outside for a bit.

    October 25, 2013

  • Karen

My technology (laptop) was dead for the last week. Just got back online. Is there anything in particular you need? Do you need any paper products? Boring I know. Or I could make cup of dirt with gummy worms (and eyeballs if I can find some) for the kids.

    October 23, 2013

    • Kathryn

the dirt with worms and eyeballs things sounds pretty Halloweenish and cool

    Wine?
