Boating on Lake Mendota for C, C, and R birthdays (Kid-friendly!)

The 4th of July was so much fun that I KNEW we had to have another one on the lake. Let's get together and have fun boating, swimming, "Orlopping", eating, drinking, and having a blast. Mom and Dad said that the BEST group they had ever had was the SP-DA group, and they are just as excited about this event as I am...well,almost anyway. Mom will provide the cake. Y'all bring your beverages and a dish to pass.

*Just a friendly reminder that because my parents live on the lake, parents MUST supervise their kids.
*Also, to keep the numbers reasonable, I am setting a limit of 55 people. RSVP soon! :)

It was a wonderful time! Thank you Cathy and your parents for hosting the party! I enjoyed the boat ride and history lesson with Captain Dick! It looked like all the kids were having a good time. Once again "Happy Birthday to the Bday Ladies"! I only voted 4 stars to see how you can, if possible, out do yourself next time. ;-)

Wonderful, as usual. Cathy and her family are such great hosts and hostesses. Even more important, I hope the two birthday girls felt special. Thank you for opening your home to all of us. It was also awesome that two other people brought boats and the paddle boat was out.

Thank you to Cathy and her parents. What a great party. Give your dad a special thank you for the boat ride and tour of Shorewood/Middleton. I truly had a great time.

You know it's a good party when kids are still playing in the water after dark, there are people talking around the chimenea at 9 PM, and all that was heard was talking and laughing. I had the honor of getting my first b-day spanking (Thanks Sue C!) and my first dunking! LOL! Thanks everyone! <3

What a great time! After seeing the B/D pics and watching the birthday girl take to the water, with and without ski's (haha, nice toss fellas!) I now understand why she can pull of the wild wigs/outfits :-)

What 5 year old girl doesn't have there own boat. Geez. Looking forward to seeing everyone because u are so fun and nice. And, the water is a large passion of ours.

I had put on my rsvp but will also add to comments just in case...bringing watermelon. Might be good on a hot day. ;) Are you going to also need additional meat? Not seeing a lot if comments for what people are bringing. I know it really helps to know. It help others, too, to ensure a variety.

There will be name tags by my parents' front door. As with last time please write your name on a nametag, then follow the steps all the way to the lake. When in doubt where to go, just follow the sounds of people laughing and talking! :)

This will be the first time I can attend one of the events! I am so excited. I have a 2 and 3 year old...is there lake beach front that the kids can enter the water from?

    August 23, 2012

    • Cathy P.

Jessica, a sincere welcome to you and your children! :) The best way to enter the lake is by hopping off the pier. The water is quite shallow, so the kids will be safe. People can go in off the shore, but it's very rocky. I would not recommend it. I'm looking forward to seeing you-you will have a great time! :)

      August 23, 2012

  • Cathy P.

54 hours to go, not that I am counting down or anything... If you could list what you might be bringing (besides a SWIMSUIT and a smile, LOL!) that would be great. I know what Rick is bringing, and am already preparing myself for that treat! Salads? Stuff to be grilled? Appetizers? Fruits and veggie trays? Cheeses? You name it, it will be eaten. See you all soon!

    August 23, 2012

    • Amy P.

I will bring hummus and crackers.

      August 23, 2012

  • Cathy P.

@ Rick Actually Mom and I were just talking about that, LOL! We have ordered a half-sheet white cake with white frosting. IF you want to honor us with one of your insanely delicious chocolate creations (twist my arm!), by all means, go for it!

@ Renee I can't wait either! :) I'll be glad to see everyone. Is it Saturday yet?

    August 22, 2012

    • Rick

In that case I'll see if I can whip up a Midnight Sin chocolate cake. Seems fitting given your first post, not to mention your next ladies night theme ;)

      August 22, 2012

  • Cathy P.

As to what to bring, last time we had a nice mix (I think) of grilled items and yummy appetizers. There is a grill available, so hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. are always more than welcome. We have plenty of cups, plates, forks, etc. so don't worry about that. And naturally we have the best resource of all-fun SP-DA people who make me smile every day, not just on my birthday. Thanks for coming to all of you-Robin, Carrie, and I are so lucky!

    August 22, 2012

  • Renee K

Can't wait! I'm going to take a spin through my family reunion first so I will probably get there about 4ish.

    August 22, 2012

  • Cathy P.

This weekend promises to be a fun one! Just a couple of helpful things for everyone to know. If you prefer, many people like to park at Spring Harbor Middle School and walk to my parents' house from there. Also, because of the # of people coming, my parents have generously opened up the lower level of their home for another bathroom. (Whew! That's definitely a good thing, folks! ;)

    August 22, 2012

  • Rick

Will this be a cookout like the party on the 4th? Just trying to figure out what to bring since dessert is covered.

    August 22, 2012

  • Cathy P.

Awww! Thanks for your good wishes, Sue! Don't worry-we'll have plenty of time to get wild and crazy with the dancing meetup in September, LOL! I am so jealous-I have always wanted to go to Prague. That's one of the places on my list that I want to visit. Tell her to have fun, and take LOTS of pictures! :)

    August 20, 2012

  • Sue

Dang it!! Missing a party at the lake AGAIN! Happy Birthday Cathy!! Going to Chicago for a party for my niece who will be studying abroad for the semester in Progue.

    August 20, 2012

  • Optimistic C.

I'll have my 17 yo niece, visiting from England, with me... Miss Molly.

    August 19, 2012

  • Cathy P.

Also, my brother Rick is here! Hopefully I can use my sisterly persuasive abilities for him to stay and meet you all! He's heard all about SPDA, (only good things!) so if he does come, please welcome him. He'd appreciate meeting all of you! Thanks!

    August 18, 2012

  • Cathy P.

Time sure flies! This time next week the party will be going on! I have a respectful request for the guests who are bringing kids-can you mention their ages, so we'll know the ranges? There may be an extra guest of a guest who's 17, and it might be reassuring to her if she knows there are kids of a similar age!

    August 18, 2012

  • Kathryn

It would only be me this time. Grrr...I never see these fast enough. :)

    August 18, 2012

  • Robin

@Cathy - Thanks for putting my name "up in lights!" :) Can't wait!

    August 13, 2012

  • Cathy P.

And NO Willie and Renee, I am NOT going to sing any of those CCR songs, and I am definitely not going to recreate my singing of "Proud Mary" with the vacuum cleaner (which my parents still have, by the way!)

    August 13, 2012

  • Cathy P.

Not that I am counting down or anything, LOL, but this is 12 days from now! Yay! Just a note-no presents are necessary-just your presence, which is a gift in and of itself. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

    August 13, 2012

  • Willie W.

"Proud Mary", I could see you doing that. Sounds like this would be a good time for you to recreate that.
Don't forget "Center Field". I use to play that song on my way to my games to get psyched up for the game.

    August 1, 2012

  • Cathy P.

@ Renee Thanks so much for your compliments! :) I agree, there is no such thing as a "boring" meetup with this group! ;)

One last CCR-related item-the best concert I ever attended was a CCR concert on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. It was held at a rodeo fairgrounds, and it seemed everyone in Window Rock was there: my students with their little brothers and sisters to old grandmas and grandpas. One thing we all had in common that night was CCR! LOVE that band, always will! :)

  • Renee K

@Cathy why doesn't that surprise me? you are such a hoot, can't wait for more fun times with this group!

    July 31, 2012

  • Cathy P.

@ Willie MY song was "Proud Mary". My parents can attest to this story. When I was about 2, we had this ancient vacuum cleaner. It was basically a cylinder with a hose attached to it. Apparently, whenever that song came on, I would pick up the hose part of it and dance around with it. Tina Turner I wasn't, LOL! ;)

    1 · July 31, 2012

  • Cathy P.

@ Renee Now, now, now...you know there will not be any blue-green algae at my party! ;) Jumping in the lake with the wig on? Nah-I'll just pass it to one of the men, and they can wear it for me! ;)
