Devil's Lake fall hike on Tuesdays - 2 levels, now only one rim

Thought we might do hiking Devil's Lake every Tuesday until it gets too dark or too cold. I will be coming after work as soon as I can, so if Tess beats me there, she will start the group out. We will start the hike promptly at 5:30!

As the season progresses and we lose the sun earlier, we will shorten the hike. The rim hike definitely takes energy and stamina due to hiking up and down the bluffs. It would not be recommended for young children....not even my own. As we lessen the route later, it will become easier. People do not have to do the whole route if they want to separate on their own to go back earlier. I would recommend bringing water to drink and a flashlight, esp if we do the whole rim as it is a longer hike. Our goal would be good exercise and enjoyment.

9/18 HIKE:  We will shorten the hike due to less daylight hours.  This week we will have two routes:  Both of us will start off hiking the Tumbled Rocks path which is at the base of the West Bluff, which is different from what we have been doing.  With that route, we should get some beautiful scenery.  We will divide at the end of that path, so that Tess can take the group up the West Bluff route and return to the North Shore.  The faster group will go with me and we will go around the South Shore and hike the East Bluff, which is a strenuous hike with quite a bit of elevation.  We have a longer route so will pick up speed, take the bluff, and meet at the North Shore.  Just in case, please bring a flashlight or headlight.

Those who want to can stop afterwards at Hooty's (no, not Hooters) to have dinner and/or beverage or beer.  This link gives you a map of the hiking trails:

If it is actively raining, this meetup will be cancelled. Otherwise I will watch the Baraboo forecast and let people know. Please be aware the weather in Baraboo often is not the same as in Madison.

You do need a vehicle sticker or daily pass to get in since it is a state park, which can be purchased at entry if needed. This meetup is in conjunction with Madison Outdoor Group and Energizers.
