Pier Review at Pearson's Landing-NOT kid-friendly

Hi all! The amazing SP-DA group helped my parents put in the pier in the spring. Any help taking it out would be much appreciated! This is an annual WORK event complete with brats/burgers/hotdogs grilled by the grillmaster (grillmistress!), ME. Snacks and beverages will be available throughout the day. My parents have 4 pairs of NON-LEAKY waders, which is a good thing, lol!

It is a lot of work, but it goes by fast with good people helping. Then you all can relax by the lake, enjoy the fall weather, and watch the Packers play if that's something that you like! :)

*JUST A REMINDER: This is one event where kids are NOT allowed. Although Nadia will be there with me, the fact is Mom and I will be tag-teaming to make sure that she is safely out of the way so that the work can be done. There WILL be more kid-friendly meetups, though! Just wait and see... :)

A huge and heartfelt thank you to those that came and worked their butts off on Saturday last week and yesterday. It's definitely a team sport, LOL, so those that came to be part of the team were much appreciated. My parents really appreciate the time, energy, and MUSCLE it took to get this work done! :) Thanks again, all!

While it might not have been the most funnest - it is a joy to FINALLY be able to do something for Cathy and her parents who do so much for all of us!

To those that made the trip out in vain-I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience! I found out at 12:43, and posted the change as soon as I was able to do so via my phone. If you are able to help next week, it would be much appreciated. If not, thanks for your willingness to come out. Again, I apologize sincerely!

A bit of rain is no problem. Now, if we see the ark float by, I'm outta there! Hope we get it done today. I can come by anytime today. Next week I'm booked with family.

@ Jim LOL, love your enthusiasm for working when you're not at work! Thanks for volunteering!

Actually, I miss being near the water as I was raised and respect large open areas of water both salt and fresh. The people and views are most inspiring!

@ Saturday crew First of all, thank you so much for braving the elements today, lol! We'll play today by ear. My dad and brother will start things at 1, but even if you come by and the work is finished, PLEASE stay for a brat/hotdog! Captain's orders! :)

Update on the situation for tomorrow: if it's really stormy, it will be up to my dad and brother to get things ready for Sunday, which should be a fairly decent day. IF you can come on Saturday, even for a little bit, that would be great, but we all do understand the weather is a huge factor here! :) Thank you all!

I'm working late. Otherwise I would have missed this. I will get there as soon as I can tomorrow. Call me if you feel the weather is too bad tomorrow. My cell is[masked]-0415. If tomorrow doesn't work, I can come Sunday. I just can't take the time to come both days.

  • Cathy P.

OK-just talked to my dad-on both days 1:00 PM is the start time. With the cast on hand it will make very fast work! Thank you all so very much on behalf of myself and my sweet parents!

I don't know how many volunteers you have for Saturday. My time is limited this weekend. It would be about 2:00 or so before I could get there on Sat. I see rain is in the forecast for Sat as well. Will that make a difference?

      October 10, 2012

    • Cathy P.

Willie, whatever time you can get there, your help would be much appreciated. This happens rain or shine-unless there's lightning! Thanks again for your offer to help!

Cathy, I enjoyed two parties at Pearson's Landing this summer. Thank You! I would like to help, at least a little this weekend. I have several things to take care of this weekend to get ready for leaving on my vacation the following weekend. I could probably come for a while one of the two days. What time do you want help on Saturday?

    October 8, 2012

    • Cathy P.

Hi Willie! Thanks so much for your generous offer to help on Saturday. As I told John, my parents are out of town, will be back tomorrow. I think that 1-2 people on Saturday will be more than sufficient. I think the plan is early afternoon, and only for an hour or two. I will post more when I do know. Thank you again! :)

If you have a time Table for Saturday, I may be able to get it between sending WWII vets to Washington and dancing in the early evening (probably shouldn't smell too "lakey" for that.) Aikido class Sunday 'til 4 and I'm out in Dodgeville so I doubt I'd be useful then.

    • Cathy P.

Hi John! My parents are out of town, and will be back tomorrow night. I think the plan for Saturday only needs 1-2 people besides my dad, and I believe it was early afternoon. I will check with him to make sure. Saturday is not a "Lake" day in terms of getting in the water. That's more for Sunday. I hope that helps! Thank you! :)

      October 8, 2012

  • Cathy P.

Last time what worked was that 2-3 men were in the water with leak-proof waders on, and a couple stacked the pieces on the shore. Yeah, you will have to dress warm, but the waders do help. More help would be great, in whatever capacity you are able! :) Thank you!

Cathy, will the Sunday event involve going into the water to take the pier apart?

    October 5, 2012

  • Cathy P.

Saturday's agenda looks something like this: Carry ramps downhill, put ramps in place, take cover off of boat hoist, put boat on trailer, and put cover on the boat.

Sunday's agenda: remove piers, stack on shore. It's a WORK day, followed by relaxing by the lake. Thanks in advance for your help! :)
