Hi everyone! I hope this finds you well. I’m not sure if you all received the email below, but in case you have, I need to make a correction.
That is, I cannot take credit for starting this group. That goes to our original organizer, D.J., who started it in September 2006 as a support/discussion group for folks struggling through the pain of separation and divorce. From there it evolved into the dynamic social networking and support group it is today.
I joined the group as a member in March 2008 when I was at one of the lowest moments of my life, and this group offered the friendship, fun and support I needed to crawl out of that deep, dark hole. So when D.J. was ready to step down as organizer, I wanted to keep the group going so that others could benefit from it in the same way I had. 4+ years later I remain involved for that same reason, but mainly just because this is the most awesome group of folks I have ever had the pleasure to meet! Seriously. I don’t know where else a person could meet such a steady supply of smart, fun, kind and giving individuals.
It may sound corny, but I really do think our group is very special, and I believe that our shared experiences of separation, divorce, and or single parenting give us a bond that other groups cannot and do not have. Many, many thanks to each of you for, as the email below states, showing up and supporting one another. This group is so great because of each of you make it so.
Wow! 500 Single Parents - Divorced Adults is a remarkable achievement. Fewer than 10% of all Meetup Groups hit 500 members, so you should be proud. By showing up and supporting one another, you've built something incredibly special together.
Have fun, and keep the momentum going! Each contribution, large or small, makes your Meetup more successful.
A super special thank you goes out to Laura for getting this fantastic Meetup off the ground!
Cheers to your continued success!
