Bashakill Walk and Winery Picnic!!

Let's enjoy a wonderful Saturday afternoon walk and then visit the Basha Kill Winery and Vineyards. We will walk for roughly 2-3 hours depending on the group, the walking and the weather.

The Bashakill is an old railroad bed which is a great unpaved wilderness walk. It is flat and straight along the bank of the Bashakill itself, a wonderful body of water that changes with the seasons. You will be happy with your hiking boots, the path may have muddy sections but sneakers will be fine too. This is perfect for beginners or those that enjoy a non-strenuous hike but love to see lots of nature stuff.

When we have had enough we will go across the street to the winery for a wine tasting. The tasting is free. We will bring yummy food to share while we are at the winery. Please bring something easy to share, finger food or appetizers will work well. The winery has live music from 2-6pm.

Dogs welcome. For winery info go to www.bashakillvineyards.com

Directions: Take exit 113 off rt 17, get off the ramp and go south on rt 209 for about 2 miles. Make a left on Haven road (blue BashaKill sign on Rt. 209) and go past some houses, pass a parking lot on the left and go over a one lane bridge. Just ahead on the left is a 'road' which leads in to the parking lot where we will not start our walk. UPDATE: Do not turn in here. Keep going straight, the road comes to a T. Go right, and go about 2 miles to the winery. Do not park at the winery but instead go right, into a boat launch parking lot by the Bashakill. :-)

We will meet at the parking lot directly across from the winery. Follow the signs to the winery but go right, into the boat launch parking lot. We will be closer to the winery for the after fun. It is about 2 miles from the Haven Road parking lot.

Rain or shine, $2 Meetup fee except if you're a new member or over 50 events with me, your first event is free!! Do check your email the night and morning before the event for updates and please send me your cell if I don't have it, I will return with mine. I do NOT text. :-)

Go on the winery site and read all the history and about their grapes . All organic and they built out caves to age the wine!

    October 31, 2013

    • Les

yes an they plan to start making there own wine right there , they also have plans to plant more grapes on the back hill over the cave. the man that did all the woodworking an built the cave was my old boss years ago when i was learning to be a carpenter. . the place is really kool.

Will bring crockpot of chili. May not join u for the walk will let u know

    October 31, 2013

  • Deborah S.

Making a crockpot of white bean chili, bringing shredded cheese and rolls not enough for entire group, probably enough for 15?will bring cups and spoons, baking blackberry crisp too enough for about 6-8 people. If someone can bring "small"rolls, about 15-20 that would be great with chili.

I will bring a pumpkin pie and all the paper goods and plasticware. I hope we don't end up with 50 bags of chips and salsa, please think of something more substantial as we will need more than just appetizers. Don't forget your chair and please no dogs at the winery. I'm aiming for 2:30 - 3pm at the winery for those that aren't walking with us. :-)

Carpooling will make this less congested up there. There are a couple of parking lots along Haven Road where friends could park, about 2 1/2 miles before the winery. A carpool from Bed Bath and Beyond could start at 11:15 if anyone is interested. Put CARPOOL in your comment if you want to be scooped up @ BBB. I may not carpool, may meet you at the boat launch.... :-)

Hi Friends!! Please bring a camp chair along with your yummy dish. I would strongly say NO DOGS at the winery, please leave them in your car. It will just be too crowded, thank you for understanding. They do have outlets for crock-pots. Please label your dish so you get it back and any serving utensils. :-)
