Fishkill Ridge Moderate/Strenuous Hike!!

  • Oct 26, 2013 · 10:00 AM

We have done this hike a couple of times and it was great!! It wasn't quite strenuous but it's far from a beginner hike. You may not want to make this your first hike with us if you've never hiked, you will not be happy. :-) There are serious ups and downs, it is the same ridge as Mt. Beacon.....We will do roughly 6 miles and dine afterwards, bring light lunch or heavy snacks. :-)

The views of the Hudson River, Beacon and the Newburgh areas are gorgeous and well worth the effort, especially if the colors are still with us.

Hydration before a hike is a good idea, drink extra water the day before and the morning of the hike to get your body ready........ :-)

Hiking boots, water, light lunch or heavy snacks, hat, wicking clothing, suntan lotion, bug stuff, tissues, camera, all good stuff. Clothing should be NO COTTON, no matter what the season :-). Please bring basic first aid, including moleskin for blisters!!! :-) Hiking poles are a good investment if you plan on hiking regularly, they make a big difference if your knees are unhappy (or screaming!) on the downhills.

As always, there is the chance that we may get lost, my distance estimate may be off, a wild animal may eat the map, trails can be closed, people get hurt and we have to change plans, bridges wash away, any number of peculiar things may happen. If you can't roll with the punches please don't join us. In my opinion, if you are with friends, the day is golden whatever happens!!!

For directions to the parking and a trail map to see where we are going check out...

We are parking following their directions: From intersection of Route 9 and Route 52, take Route 52 west through Town of Fishkill. Left onto Old Glenham Rd and then left onto Maple Street. After crossing bridge and at "Y" in the road, turn left onto Old Town Road. Right on Sunnyside Road. At end, bear left, then right. Continue up unpaved hill to parking area. If your car doesn't want to do the unpaved hill you can park at the bottom and come up the hill to meet us.

This is the Fishkill Ridge Trailhead on the Fishkill Ridge Trail Map link under the Google map.

$2 Meetup fee unless it's your first hike or over 50 with me in which case it's free. :-) Miserable weather postpones. Light rain doesn't necessarily cancel, stay tuned. Please send me your cell phone, I will return with mine. I do NOT text.

All hikes are at your own risk and you will need to sign a liability waiver to participate. Cheers!!!

Sorry I didn't wait to say goodbye, nature was calling & the restroom at the food mart seemed like a better choice at that point searching for that perfect spot in the woods. Good day with good people, looking forward to next time.

A wonderful hike with a great bunch of people. We had a few mishaps on the way, but made it through (Sandi). The views of the surrounding mountains, and the Hudson River all the way to Poughkeepsie were amazing. The bulldozer was great, but how did it get there? Dinner afterwards was delicious. Thank you once again Sheryl.

Another great day with extra special people wandering purposefully through the woods. THANK YOU UNCLE BILL for you help with Guess Who, she is one very thankful girl tonight....she owes you a beer at least for your caring help. So we were going to do 4 miles but I think we really did the 6 as posted. I love that bulldozer!!! I wish it were a little closer but maybe we can figure that out for next time. We enjoyed a great meal afterwards at Max's. If you want the Just a Dog email I need your name, it isn't something I can imbed in this note. Sorry, not sure I was talking to about it now!! Thank you again to all for your donations, we are up to $641 and I'm sending the check out tomorrow. WOW!!! Thank you all for coming out today, I know you will all sleep well tonight. :-) See you soon!!!

Hi Friends, I'm not sure about the 6 mile distance for today, it will likely be shorter than that. :-)

Sorry, I will not be able to join you tomorrow. I have an injury that keeps flaring up..would not want to make it worse by hiking and ruin your hike too! Have fun!
