It's a Breakneck Kind of Hike!!

Breakneck is wonderful, Breakneck is  challenging, and it can be horrible. You will sweat no matter what the season. Bring a bandana for the sweat. :-) This is one of my favorites. Breakneck Mt. It is a strenuous hike but it's worth the agony. Not for beginners unless you're in really good shape.

The views are just gorgeous and after the first part it is just a regular hike. The first part is completely rock scrambling, and straight UP. Very challenging if you've never done any rock scrambling.......HIKING BOOTS MANDATORY.

This is a tough mountain, but as all the rest, only in the beginning....and half of it is beginning!!!

There are several 'false summits' to this hike, you think you're THERE , but NO, you are not, keep going.......for beginners this will be a very challenging hike, you will not be happy.....there is quite a bit of rock scrambling involved.

Please choose another hike for your first hike with us. If you decide this isn't for you, going back down is even worse. (I did it once. Hope to not do it again.) If I ask you to reconsider your day in the parking lot, you may want to listen to me. :-)

It is not a long hike, we will start early and end early, and dine in Cold Spring at Whistling Willie's or Max's, but please don't let the distance fool you, it is really not for beginners!!! The views are gorgeous........

Bring: WATER, snacks, hat, a change of shirt/shoes for dining, and WATER, oh, and your camera, a bandana for the sweat, and as always, hiking boots are necessary....... :-)

We will meet on 9D roughly 5 miles south of Beacon along the river, you will see lots of cars...........park wherever you can and go to the big parking lot to meet!!!! If you go through the tunnel - going south on 9D you have gone too far........going northbound you have to go thru the tunnel and then park and meet at the large parking area. You can't miss the parking area.

Rain or shine but heavy rain cancels. There is a chance if it rained the day before we will cancel, wet rocks are dangerous. Check your email that morning  if in doubt.

$2 Meetup fee except if you are a new friend or over 50 events with me, these friends are free. :-) Happy day!!

ALL HIKES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK, and you will need to sign a liability waiver to participate. New friends, please send me your cell and I will return with mine.......please, no texts.

If you'd ever told me I'd one day be scrambling straight up the side of a mountain looking for toeholds and footholds in a mile of solid rock, I would have said you were crazy! It was fun and scary and amazing all at the same time. If I had to choose the team I did this fun, amazing and scary thing with, I could not have chosen better! And thanks to Sheryl for showing me where to go if I want to be a 'rock' star!

Perfect! A joyful cadre of the OCOS team navigating a multi-summit scramble amidst a sea of like-minded climbers. And that was just the beginning of this wonderful day. Kudos to our fearless leader and her faithful 4 legged companion!

    Hi Friends,
This is not a beginner hike unless you have hiked (not walked) in the last few months with a local HIKING group. Please change your RSVP if you cannot make it. The first hour is literally straight UP and I strongly encourage slow or newbie hikers to choose a different hike for this or your first hike with us. We will hike at a steady pace. Thank you!!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
