Wahoo!! Ice skating is great exercise, and a great way to get outside without devoting a whole day to a hike. This is always a great time, fresh air, great friends, and a delicious meal afterwards, location TBD.
The skating times are in hour & 1/2 blocks, ours will be 4-5:30, so let's meet at 4:00 to skate, then off to eat afterwards. Parking will be $8, skating fee is $5, and skate rental is $4. Observers inside the rink area are $2. Lockers are .50 and only open once. If you have skates, bring them. Refreshments are available. Walkers, bring a flashlight.
If you hate parking fees, you may want to split the cost and carpool from the Ft. Montgomery Overflow Parking area nearby at 3:45. It's the roadside parking area just past the main historic site, maybe 1/10th of a mile past and over a bridge on 9W on the north side of the bridge. Don't go down into the main Ft. Montgomery site on the other side of the bridge. Put Carpool in your RSVP so I know who to expect. If you're not carpooling we would hope to see you inside the rink area or skating changing room. :-)
For those that don't skate, you may enjoy a leisurely walk around Hessian Lake, and then sit and laugh at us skaters while sipping hot chocolate on firm unslippery ground. Please put WALKING in your RSVP so friends know if others are walking so they aren't walking alone....you may want to bring a flashlight as it will be dark!!
If you are a novice skater don't worry!!! We will hold you up for at least a little while!!! The wall is your friend and we love to stop and chat.... :-) They also have really soft ice for those that need it. ;-)
The Bear Mountain Inn is located at the intersection of the Palisades Parkway and 9W, and if you've never been there you really should visit it.
For lots of info about Bear Mountain including directions, visit www.bearmountainicerink.com or call the park at[masked]-2701.
Please email me your cell if I don't have it for changes, I will return with mine. PLEASE DON'T TEXT ME and don't touch the Good To See You buttons afterwards. Nasty weather changes things, check your emails beforehand if you're unsure. $2 Meetup fee unless you're a new friend or over 50 events with me, your adventure is free. Happy day!!!
