SATURDAY is the day for the WALKWAY LOOP!!

New Update!! Our day is Saturday. We will meet in the bar at River Station at 2 and walk the loop including Frannie Reese State Park, the nature part of our day. We will walk/hike roughly 4 miles and end up at River Station for our meal. For those that don't want to do Frannie Reese you can walk slowly and we will catch up with you. Frannie Reese is a small park that has wonderful views over the Mid Hudson Bridge only attainable from directly above it at the park. It has some elevation that beginning walkers/hikers might not enjoy. It is easy to avoid this!!! Sign up and do what you're comfortable with, it's all good.

The Bridge Loop is a 3.5 mile loop with awesome views from both the Mid Hudson Bridge and Walkway over the Hudson, with walking along Poughkeepsie roads. We will  dine at River Station in a room overlooking the Hudson River. Come join us!!!

Horrible weather changes things. $2 Meetup fee except if you're a new member or have done 50 events with me, your adventure is free!! Please send me your cell if I don't have it for last minute changes. I will return with mine. All hikes are at your own risk and you will need to sign a liability waiver to participate. Cheers!!

    FRANNIE REESE RUINS,
Dr Charles Roberts, Dentist and Railroad Investor, had an imposing Victorian mansion erected in 1868 upon a bluff overlooking the Hudson River. The estate came to be known as Cedar Glen due to the many cedar trees on the property. Roberts educated his boys at Vassar College and gave his daughters the best available education. In fact, Roberts bought his daughter, Grace Van Braam Roberts, her own sixty-acre estate near his Victorian home. The construction of the Mid-Hudson Bridge would cut off the access road to the Victorian, thus beginning its long decay.

Another amazing day with incredible people!!! My group enjoyed a great walk, a yummy meal, and a nice smaller group where you can have good conversations and hang while we waited for the rest to do their thing. Wally leaded the majority of the group up to Frannie Reese and the ruins. Thanks Wally!! River Station once again did very well by us. Thanks Bill R. for the chocolate matzos, sorry you couldn't make it as well as the other friends who were under the weather. It was good to see everyone!! Cheers!!!

My plan for today has changed a little since I'm fighting miserable allergies. I plan to begin at the restaurant at 2. We will walk up to the Walkway bridge and go across and over to Frannie Reese. I will turn around and go back across the Walkway and back to the restaurant. Sandi will be with me and can't do the Mid-Hudson Bridge due to noise. Wally may take those that want to do Frannie Reese up there and either return on the Mid-Hudson or Walkway. We will gather back at the restaurant around 4:30 and hope to dine around 5, depending on the earlier party that is in our area and when they can get it ready for us. If I feel better later this may all change but as of now this is the plan. :-)

    • Evelyn

Will meet you at the restaurant for the walk.

Hi All, Houston, we have a problem. Paul at the Vineyard will be understaffed on this day so he can't accommodate us. (Yes, I suggested we could help out pouring wine!!) We may be able to change it to May 10 but I'd really like to find an alternate location to hike and be able to picnic/drink outside with a huge group on April 5 so we don't lose anyone. I will call River Station today as an option. Any brilliant ideas? Thanks and TGIF!!!!!

So no winery...just hiking...is that correct...are there special footwear I should wear should I decide to still come....?? I've never went hiking before

      April 4, 2014

    • Sheryl

For walking the bridges you'll be fine with sneakers, and the hike isn't tough either, sneakers will do you fine. If you're coming by train the Poughkeepsie station is right there. :-)

Now that the dust has settled from the switch from the winery event and we are only a 10% chance of rain for Saturday (I had a serious talk with the weatherman after his games last weekend), please change your RSVP if you aren't joining us. If you have a SmartPhone you can find the Desktop Site (bottom of page if you have the Meetup app?) and get the regular site. For new people your RSVP really matters, no-shows are not good things. Thanks!!! :-)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
