TIME CHANGE!! Happy SATURDAY Breakneck Hike!!

Time change - 9:30am. Bring rain gear just in case!! Expect mud...bring a change of clothes/shoes for afterwards. :-)

Oops!! Date should be SATURDAY, I have a paddle event on Sunday. Sorry!!!!

Breakneck is wonderful, Breakneck is  challenging, and it can be horrible. You will sweat no matter what the season. Bring a bandana for the sweat. :-) This is one of my favorites. Breakneck Mt. It is a strenuous hike but it's worth the agony. Not for beginners unless you're in really good shape.

The views are just gorgeous and after the first part it is just a regular hike. The first part is completely rock scrambling, and straight UP. Very challenging if you've never done any rock scrambling.......HIKING BOOTS MANDATORY.

Please choose another hike for your first hike with us. If you decide this isn't for you, going back down is even worse. (I did it once. Hope to not do it again.) If I ask you to reconsider your day in the parking lot, you may want to listen to me. :-)

It is not a long hike, roughly 3 miles, we will dine in Cold Spring at Whistling Willie's or Max's in Beacon. Please don't let the distance fool you, it is really not for beginners!!! The views are gorgeous........

Bring: WATER, snacks, hat, a change of shirt/shoes for dining, and WATER, oh, and your camera, a bandana for the sweat, and as always, hiking boots are necessary....... :-)

We will meet on 9D roughly 5 miles south of Beacon along the river, you will see lots of cars...........park wherever you can and go to the big parking lot to meet!!!! If you go through the tunnel - going south on 9D you have gone too far........going northbound you have to go thru the tunnel and then park and meet at the large parking area. You can't miss the parking area.

Rain or shine but heavy rain cancels. There is a chance if it rained the day before we will cancel, wet rocks are dangerous. Check your email that morning  if in doubt.

$2 Meetup fee except if you are a new friend or over 50 events with me, these friends are free. :-) Happy day!!

ALL HIKES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK, and you will need to sign a liability waiver to participate. New friends, please send me your cell and I will return with mine.......please, no texts.
Cheers!!!

A most refreshing and challenging day on the trails. Great scrambles, great friends, great accomplishments for some of our first timers! And, as always, great fun at Max's. A barrel of laughs...pickles, you might even say. :) Thanks for making this happen Sheryl, despite the formidable forecast

As I was so gently informed........this was my virgin scramble up Breakneck and slide down! Thank you all for playing your part. Sheryl, is there anything I can say that anyone hasn't already said about how beautiful you are from the inside out? Truly find your leadership to be top shelf! Thank You!! When are we going again?

Who cares if it's grey and rainy? It's the company that make the sun shine sometimes. Our first scramble of the season, the last snowball fight, a great meal and fun with friends, it's all good. We even gained someone new for dinner!! Thank you all for being part of a great day!!!

This was a new adventure for me; without the help of many, it would not have been as enjoyable. There's so much to see and do. I am grateful that I get to share it with such a great group. KUDOS to Sheryl for a wonderful day.

Another great hike! The rain gently falling while we neared the end, was like music on the fallen leaves in the other wise tranquil woods.

Well-soled grippy boots will be mandatory on this, wet rocks from Friday's rain will be a challenge, but I'm not backing down. I'm thinking of my rubber-palmed gardening gloves, could be good to grip on the wet rock scrambles.......I hope Sandi didn't eat them..... :-) Bring a rain jacket but I think we'll be out of the woods by the forecasted rain. :-)

Sheryl, what are the best kind of shoes to wear for this?

    March 24, 2014

    • Sheryl

Hi Claudia, Hiking boots are mandatory. If you can't see the full listing and have a Smart Phone look for the Desktop Site which will bring you to the regular site. I believe you need the Meetup App for this. :-)
