Update!! It looks like many are good with going to Gully's afterwards instead of Union Square. Decision made!! Gully's it will be. :-)
We always do Stewart as Plan B, it's our old standby....let's do it as Plan A this time. This can be a hike in the woods or a walk on the old roads...so you can be surrounded by trees or not. We will make 2 groups and wander off, and come back together for dining at GULLY'S.
Let's get together and explore the old roads that became the buffer lands for Stewart Airport....If you like birds, bring your binoculars and bird book, hopefully lots of opportunity for wildlife!
Stewart State Forest is the area around Stewart Airport, also known as the Stewart Buffer Lands. It is rolling terrain, properly equipped beginners welcome for both the hike or the walk.....no serious anything, just good fresh air, wonderful company and good exercise.
Bring WATER and your sense of adventure, camera, tissues, sunglasses.
Meet at the Ridge Road parking area. It is off Rt. 17K just past Coldenham Rd, follow the link attached. There is an abandoned gas station and a traffic light at this intersection, it's just past Dempsey Pipe if you know the Coldenham area on 17K. I posted the Dempsey Pipe address, we are not meeting there, but it'll get you close.
GPS people, be careful if your GPS wants you to go THROUGH the buffer lands, the roads show up on your GPS but are closed to vehicles. Weed Road and Ridge Road are not through roads. Please look carefully at my directions/map below!!!!!
The map title says Elk Pen but the blue marker is in the right place. It is in the lower left corner when the map first opens up, don't go to the other blue markers, look for Rt. 84 just by the blue marker. :-)
See you there!! :-)After the event please DO NOT TOUCH the Good to See You Buttons!!! Remember to change your RSVP if you can't make the event. Please do NOT text me, I will not get it and will not reply. Thanks!!
Please send me your cell if I don't have it, I will return with mine. All hikes are at your own risk and you will need to sign a liability waiver to participate. $2 Meetup fee unless it's your first event or over 50 events with me, and then it's free. Cheers!!
