Mohonk - Bontacou Crag and Table Rocks!!

Here's a challenging hike for those desiring more than just a hike. Bonticou Crag is a rock scramble that was called Breakneck on Steroids. It is a huge rock scramble, you must be part mountain goat to even consider this. I would rather no beginners on this hike. If you have a fear of heights this is not for you. Scrambling experience seriously preferred. HIKING BOOTS WITH GOOD TREAD ARE NECESSARY!!!!

Those that don't want to scramble will take the wonderful FLAT blue path around and meet us on the other side. NO DOGS ON THE SCRAMBLE.

You may want to join the Preserve as we will do several hikes at Mohonk this year. :-) For lots of info visit mohonkpreserve.org

Dress in (wicking) layers, bring water, hat, sunglasses, suntan lotion, bug stuff, bandana for sweat, first aid, LUNCH, tissues, and don't forget your camera. Hiking boots mandatory. Dress in layers, you will be exposed when on the rocks. If you have interesting health issues please let me know in advance. We live in tick country, you should ALWAYS do a thorough tick check after a hike or being outdoors.

Being properly prepared means being hydrated before and during the hike, drink plenty of water the day before and the morning of the hike. You MUST bring at least 2 liters of water.

We will likely dine afterwards in New Paltz and those enjoying a good shoe shopping side trip will want to join me at Pegasus after we eat. :-)

There was a $12 per PERSON fee last year. I will check if is the same. Parking is free but LIMITED!!!! We can carpool from New Paltz or Newburgh, or meet at the parking lot. Carpool would start at 8:15 in Newburgh in the Bed, Bath and Beyond parking lot at the Newburgh Mall. In New Paltz meet in the Park and Ride just past the New Paltz thruway tollbooth at 8:45, or 9:00 at the parking lot. Put 'carpool' in your RSVP and the location. Please don't be late, early is good!

Carpoolers please contribute to the gas and be on time as others are waiting for us. Please note the parking lot fills early on weekends, you may seriously want to carpool!!

Directions: Take the New Paltz exit 18 off of the NYS Thruway. Go west on Route 299 (through New Paltz), go over steel bridge and turn right onto Springtown Road. Make a left onto Mountain Rest Road. Pass the entrance to the Mohonk Mountain House and go under the one-lane bridge. Continue on 1 mile, and turn right on Upper 27 Knolls Road. Within ¼ mile, you’ll reach the kiosk for the Spring Farm Trailhead.

After the hike please DO NOT TOUCH THE GOOD TO SEE YOU BUTTONS!!! Check your computer before you leave if you have doubts about the weather. ALL HIKES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK and you will need to sign a liability waiver to participate. Please send me your cell, I will return with mine. Please, no texts. $2 Meetup fee except if you are a new friend or over 5o events with me, your adventure is free. :-) Happy day!!

The quote of the day.........you had to be there....."Can you move your breasts over?" It happened twice, I can attest to it. :-) You had to be there. :-)

Hi Friends, We may all do the blue path today, let's see how slippery and muddy it is. Be prepared for a change of trail, your sense of adventure would be a great thing to pack today!! If you are intent on scrambling you may be on your own. :-)

Slippery rock advisory!!! With all the rain tomorrow we are likely to encounter wet rocks for our scramble. You may want to bring grippy gloves to help you on the rocks, gardening gloves work well.... :-) You may get dirty.... :-) :-) :-)
