St. Patrick's Day Parade

St. Patrick's Day is on a Saturday this year!!!

We will be meeting at Flannery's Pub. There we can have a drink or two before heading over to Superior Avenue to watch the parade.

FAQs

Q: Is the parade going to be too crowded?

A: Since the Browns fell just short of the Super Bowl, this is sure to be the event of the year in Cleveland. It is a very fun and popular event so it will be crowded. Even when the parade isn't on a Saturday, most kids skip school and adults play hookey from work, so it might not be that much more crowded than past years. You are encouraged to use public transportation (RTA) or carpool if possible. Get there early and If you do drive, bring cash because the lots will be charging special event rates.

*Here is the schedule to the RTA if you plan on using it: http://www.riderta.com/schedules/. It also shows you a map as to where you can get on the rappids.

Q: I heard the streets are going to be littered with drunken Irishmen. Is this true?

A: You should never judge anyone by their race or ethnicity. But in this case you can make an exception to that rule, it is true. This year they will be joined by at least one drunken Croatian. It's St. Pat's. Everyone is Irish, everyone is drunk. Remember to drink responsibly and don't drink and drive.

Q: Will there be any leprichans?

A: According to legend, every St. Patrick's Day, a rainbow settles on Superior Avenue. Naturally leprichans will be flocking to the area looking for their pot of gold. If you find a pot of gold, leave it alone. Leprichans will do whatever it takes to get it from you even if it means casting a thousand curses on you. If you have a fear of short mythical elvan creatures, you should consider sitting this one out.

Q: I don't have any green shirts to wear. Will this be a problem?

A: You'd better get yourself a green shirt. It doesn't have to be the nicest shirt. Borrow one or you can get a cheap one at the Goodwill if you want. Failure to wear green means you will be gang tackled and pinched all over by hundreds of angry drunks.

Hey jason email me your phone # please.

    March 16, 2012

  • Jason

The parade starts at 1pm so we'll probably leave Flannery's around then. I am definitely in for breakfast at City Tap.

    March 16, 2012

  • Yoande' S.

So who is going to city tap at 9

    March 16, 2012

  • Jason

Bad news! We're gonna have to rough it in the elements. The forecast is for sun with a high of 72. :-)

  • Martina

My mates changed their mind about brekkie somewhere on 25th, so Jason's idea is best than everyone is at the same place. I probably will aim for Flannery's but meeting mates at 11am at a yet to be designated place (I suggested Flannery's they are still deciding) so I might get to Flannery's later. Any idea how long the group is staying there or how I can contact the group if you have moved on?

    March 16, 2012

  • katheryn

    I like that ideae

    March 16, 2012

  • Jason

For those who want breakfast, I say meet @ city tap @ 9 AM. For everyone else, Flannery's @11 AM. Does that sound good to everyone?

    March 16, 2012

Parking for anyone driving downtown is available in a garage across the street from one of the entrances to city tap. Next to Q arena and others around that. It's quite possible they may have event rates $10-15. It would be more advised to take public transit in some fashion

    March 16, 2012

  • katheryn

Kegs and eggs sounds good. What time are we getting together

    March 16, 2012

  • Das

Sounds exciting, where we meeting then for breakfast? Is there parking available nearby?

    March 16, 2012

  • Jason

I think somewhere downtown would be best for breakfast since we have interest from both east and west siders. Kegs and eggs @ City Tap sounds like a good idea to me.

    March 16, 2012

  • Yoande' S.

Ok..so the people from westside...where are we meeting for breakfast..I'm confused;-)

    March 16, 2012

  • Brett

Jason, do you know what time we will be leaving Flannery's to go to the parade? I still plan on meeting you by 11 or so. I was thinking about ordering food at Flannery's (I know it will be packed).

    March 16, 2012

  • katheryn

So many choices so little time. I'm on the westside so anywhere between here and Flannery's works for me.

    March 16, 2012

  • Sarah R

Err $5 kegs and eggs. So many options along with what the others mentioned

    March 16, 2012

  • Sarah R

@jason eastside I did see there's a yours truly at shaker square Pick wick on e 4th is advertising breakfast menu from 8am - 11am. Sounds like not buffet as they did a few years ago.

City tap down the street on prospect is advertising $5 kegs

    March 16, 2012

  • katheryn

So when and where are we meeting up for breakfast?

    March 16, 2012

  • Jason

We have some new people which is good to see. Just to help you guys find us, check out the hat in my new profile picture. Look for that hat. I'll be wearing it. If I step away, I will leave that hat with someone else in the group, so look for the hat. I will also email a number you can call or text if you have trouble finding us before the start of the event.

    March 16, 2012

  • katheryn

I'm game for breakfast as well

    March 16, 2012

  • Yoande' S.

@Martina -that sounds good..@Das..I don't know of any carpools yet

    March 16, 2012

  • Martina

I'm meeting friends for Eggs & Kegs probably at The Garage or somewhere else on W25th. We'll grab a cab or the Rapid from there. If any Westsiders are interested.

    March 16, 2012

  • Das

I am coming from west side too. Is there a car pool? Face painting will be fun :)

    March 16, 2012

  • Yoande' S.

@ Kisha..cool. I will send u my number thru meetu mail if you want to coordinate.

    March 16, 2012

  • Amanda

FYI - I can't join you guys because I'm going to be set up over at Harry Buffalo doing Face Painting. It's right across from Flannery's so make sure you stop over and I can paint you up really festive!

    March 16, 2012

  • Yoande' S.

@Sarah..I am attending by myself and would like to do breakfast if possible. Im coming from the west side....

    March 16, 2012

  • Sarah R

Jason I'm open to suggestions as I don't know what's close by there. Strange as it is I've never taken the train. I'm also going to look into pick wicks breakfast option but it's from 8-10 I think. Not sure if they are doing the buffet as they did a few years ago or a standard menu. The ads I've seen just had the time but not more info. I was planning to go past today.

    March 16, 2012

  • Jason

In response to Martina, I will be there at 11 am at the latest. Probably sooner. As per Sarrah's comment, I think breakfast sounds like a great idea. Since we are both on the east side, we should do something near the trans station.

    March 15, 2012

  • Megan

I'm not rsvp'd to attend the meetup. I'll be in the area but I'm attending with other friends.

    March 15, 2012

  • Martina

So not meeting up earlier with Megan or yes??? You mentioned noon the day/time at top says 11am. I need to know for sure, trying to coordinate with some other people I am meeting up with.

    March 15, 2012

  • Brett

Any eastsiders that are going can meet me by the Shaker-Green rapid station at 10:30 if they want.

    March 14, 2012

  • Sarah R

Is anyone considering breakfast downtown or some place eastside that's close to public trans?

    March 13, 2012

  • Martina

Any updates on Saturday? I am trying to coordinate with some other folks I am meeting up with also so have to figure out time and place.

    March 13, 2012

  • Megan

The Irish girl in me will proudly be 5 beers in by noon. :)

    February 21, 2012

  • Jason

John couldn't do it so me and Melissa decided to host. The noon start time is tentative, the details are still up in the air. If enough people want to start earlier, we will. I don't think too many of us will be 5 beers in before the clock strikes noon though. :-)

    1 · February 20, 2012

  • Megan

If some of us wanted to start the festivities before noon, would you want this as a separate meetup? I'm usually 5 beers in by noon. :)

    February 20, 2012

  • Megan

Wasn't John planning a St. Patty's Day meetup? It looks like it got deleted...
