Major League

Major League is a classic comedy set right here in Cleveland.  Its just in time to get us in the mood for baseball season.  One night only, the Capital Theater in Cleveland's historic Detroit Shoreway neighborhood, is having this as their midnight movie.

Synopsis: She's beautiful, smart, goal-oriented, and she just inherited the Cleveland Indians. Unfortunately, she wants to move the franchise to Miami, and a losing season is her only ticket to Florida. So she signs the wildest gang of screwballs that ever spit tobacco. Her catcher (Tom Berenger) is a washed-up womanizer who struck out in life. Her ace pitcher (Charlie Sheen) is a punked-out crazy who struck out with the law. And her third baseman (Corbin Bernsen) is more concerned about fielding endorsements than grounders. When the teams starts winning, her grand plan goes foul.

We will start off at the Stone Mad Irish Pub, 1306 West 65th St, have some food and drinks and discuss the movie and anything else we want to talk about.

About 11:40, we can walk to the theater

The Capitol Theater will soon be the most exciting location for movie-goers on the West Side of Cleveland. Like a year-round film festival, the three-screen Capitol will feature independent, foreign and documentary films. Several market studies have demonstrated strong potential growth for an art and independent film theater on Cleveland’s West Side. When complete, the Capitol will feature an expanded lounge and concession area, including a selection of beer and wine, along with traditional movie concession favorites.

Built in 1921, but vacant for the last two decades, this historic structure is well on its way to reopening as a state-of-the-art movie theater. Detailed wall murals, classically-inspired architecture, and a vaudeville stage will be restored to recreate the atmosphere of the 1920s-era movie palace, but with all the amenities of 21st century technology. Check out Cleveland Cinemas website, operator of the Capitol Theater, for show times and ticket information.

Fun time, great crowd, nice meeting some new people, and seeing some I've met before. I survived my sugar coma from dessert. Thanks Marshall for organizing this event!

Just bought my movie ticket. It was $4.00 since I am wearing a Indians jacket and hat. Free popcorn was not mentioned, but there is a raffle!

I might be able to. Is there street parking or a parking lot?

    April 19, 2013

    • Marshall

There is both street parking and a parking lot. If you get there at 10, there will be parking in the movie theater lot and you can walk to the stone mad, anytime after that, look for a spot on the street. Either way, I do not recommend moving your car as parking will be limited once it gets close to midnight.
