Hike to TWA Canyon

In order to make Khondreh happy I've scheduled another hike later in the day. Seems she has a problem getting up! LOL! TWA Canyon is in the Sandia's up Domingo Baca Canyon. A civilian airliner crashed in the canyon back in the 50's and is still there. The driving distance is about 2 miles from Albertson's. Hiking distance round trip will be about 9.5 miles, half of it downhill. NO DOGS or WHINERS. I would rate this hike as DIFFICULT due to the elevation gain of about 1500 feet. Aside from the calculations of inclination, I do wan to thank Larry for making this hike possible and for his responsible leadership.

The mean inclination of this hike was the elevatiob gain/half the hiking distance, or 2700ft/4.75 miles = 600 feet/mile. In the case of the La Luz hike, those numbers are 3900 ft/8.5 miles (the full distance one way, since we typically take the tram down.) That ratio is 459 feet/mile. If you are a good artist, draw your own conclusion.

    Great hike.
Thanks Larry for making sure everyone got up there and back safe. Your reward is the good shot of you at the crash site that I've uploaded.

I had the distance right at 9.5 miles, but was a little short on elevation at about 2700 feet. A gourgous day to make this hike. The eight who went above the waterfall all made it to the wreck site.

I'm sorry that I didn't schedule this hike for a weekend, but I like to have my weekends free. If anyone else would like to lead this hike on a weekend, let me know and I'll be happy to post it for you and if I'm not busy might go with you.
