Greetings Saturday hikers! We will hike most Saturday mornings starting this April and
ending sometime in October. These hikes get progressively more difficult over
time in order to train for the more difficult hikes in the Fall (La Luz and
Pino trail, for example).
We'll meet at the Albertsons parking lot (Tramway and Central) at 9:00 AM to sort out the carpool then depart and go east on I-40 to exit 175 (this is HWY 14), we go
north for 6.5 miles to HWY 536 turnoff on the left, then 11 miles and park at
the south 10K parking lot on the left side of the road.
We head South on the 10K trail until it intersects with the Tree Spring trail and then continue south on the crest trail until we reach the fossil garden. After finding and
examining the fossils for a few minutes, we will return on the crest trail until we reach the
Tree Spring overlook. After a brief snack break we return the way we came.
Total distance is about 7.1 miles with only 800 feet elevation change.
Bring snacks and plenty of water. Consider taking an extra shirt or a light jacket since it will be cooler at the top of the mountain.
$3 per car for parking/good for 1 day at all parking lots on the mountain, there are restrooms at the trailhead.
Remember, there is a 10 hiker limit. If you sign up and find that you cannot attend, please
change your RSVP immediately. Do this no later than 24 hours before the hike
Let's plan on having lunch in Cedar Crest on the way back to ABQ.
John (Cell #[masked]) will be leading this hike!
