Hike in Frijoles Canyon at Bandelier NM

We'll carpool from the Target parking lot and drive to Bandelier National Monument for a slow paced hike up Frijoles Canyon. Driving distance one way is about 100 miles, all on pavement. Hiking distance will be 6-10 miles depending on group and trail conditions. Elevation gain somewhere around 500 feet. NO DOGS OR WHINERS! Friends, lovers, past friends, past lovers, conservatives, low lifes, and guests are welcome. I would rate this hike as Easy to Moderate. My goal would be to reach what is known as the Upper Crossing and return. You will need to bring plenty of water, some snacks, camera, attitude (good only), and whatever else you think you might need. Any good hiking shoe or boot will suffice as the trail is normally pretty good. We will be walking right past the Sacred Kiva but will not stop to view it until on the return trip. If you have something else planned that night, then don't go on this hike! This will be a rather long day due to the driving distance. For more information you can call me at[masked] or ask your questions on this website.

Sorry all. A wreck and a stalled car on Paseo made me 20 minutes late. Hope you had a good hike! Ron

We had a very good hike in Frijoles Canyon despite the sun and the heat. For those of you who haven't been there lately take a good look at the attached pictures. The last fire really changed the look of the place. I would not recommend hiking in this area for a few years. Unless of course you like lots of rocks.

Hikers, have also learned that the Sacred Kiva on canyon rim is closed for repairs.

Fellow Hikers. I am going to change the start of this hike to the Ponderosa Campground on Hwy 4. Other wise we would have to take a shuttle from White Rock into the park.
