Saturday morning hike: 4th of July Canyon fall colors hike

Greetings Saturday hikers! We will hike most Saturday mornings starting this April and
ending sometime in October. These hikes get progressively more difficult over
time in order to train for the more difficult hikes in the Fall (La Luz and Pino trail, for example).

We'll meet at the Albertsons parking lot (Tramway and Central) no later than
8:15am to sort out the carpool. From there we'll drive the 45 miles to the 4th
of July picnic area near Tajique (we'll provide more detailed driving instructions at the parking lot before we leave).

The hike is about 6.7 miles with an elevation change of about 1400 feet making
this a moderate hike. We'll stop along the way to take in the Fall Colors in
the Manzano Mountains and there is a beautiful view of the Rio Grande valley
once we reach the top of the mountain.

If the government shut-down is still in effect, the restrooms and parking will be closed.  We will have to park along the road and walk in to the trail head.

Bring snacks, plenty of water and a camera. Consider taking an extra shirt or a light jacket
since it will be cooler at the top of the mountain.

Due to the length of the drive to the trail head and the length of the hike itself, expect this
activity to last most of the day.

John (Cell #[masked]) will be leading this hike!

Pictures are great. Truly wish I hadn't had to work yesterday. Hoping to go there within next couple of weeks.

It's my work weekend. Trying to figure out how to go on hike and work after. I may sign up and drive own car...not carpool...so I can come back earlier if needed. I've only been there once and loved it! Would love to go with the group Saturday.

I was going to do this hike if you weren't. Timing is everything. The fall colors should be looking great next Saturday.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
