Fall Colors on the Rio Reservoir!!!

  • October 12, 2013 · 11:00 AM

This will be a potluck picnic paddle on a gorgeous reservoir in Sullivan County. If we are lucky the fall colors will give us a royal treat as a backdrop to our day. The rain date will be Sunday. If weather is an issue it will automatically go to Sunday, we want a sunny calm day for this if possible. Check back for updates. We will likely dine afterwards but our lunch may be filling enough that we don't want to.

Bring something to share for a potluck lunch alongside the water at a great landing spot. Eagles will visit if we are lucky. Bring your camera, warm layers, dry clothing just in case, and a desire to enjoy a leisurely paddle with great friends.

$2 Meetup fee unless you are new or over 50 events with me. Please send me your cell, I will return with mine. There is NO cell service up there. It is roughly an hour from Newburgh. Put in 373 Old Plank Rd, Sparrow Bush, Orange County, NY  12780 for MapQuest directions. It is 3.3 miles on Old Plank Rd. from Rt. 42, roughly 15 minutes from Port Jervis. You will see the brown river access sign on Old Plank Rd. The parking lot is small, if we have a big group it may be tricky as it is also a fisherperson's parking lot.

Happy paddles!!!! :-)

Wow! Yet another perfect day. Gorgeous foliage against brilliant blue skies, a fun, shared picnic and the company of lots of friendly, interesting friends. Sheryl, I don't know how you get Mother Nature to cooperate like that but thanks, you're the best.

Sorry to cancel last minute, but the forecast for Sparrow Bush says 13 mph wind. Think the water will be a little too choppy for me in my short boat.

I was really looking forward to it but I have to back out cause I'm taking care of my mom after her knee surgery. Have fun everyone and take lots of pictures. Hopefully I can do the next one. Wally, let me know you saw this so you don't bring the Kayack!

For anyone needing fuel today don't forget the Jersey prices...when you get off 84 at the Port Jervis exit there are several cheap gas stations if you make the left at the first light, just a second off your intended path. :-)
