Valley View Food Bank

Our regularly scheduled Food Bank Volunteer Meetup , will now be held at the Valley View Food Bank on the SE corner of 107th Ave. and Peoria, on random Saturday mornings.  This is run by a friend of mine, named Jesse, who we have worked with in the past.

There is no dress code for this Food Bank, dress casually and weather appropriate.  Most of the volunteering here is done inside.

The time frame is five hours long, ( from 8 to 1), but it is not necessary that you be there the entire 5 hours.  You can show up at anytime between 8 and noon, and put in as much time as your day permits.

Feel free to bring anyone who wants to help 12 years and older.  It lasts from 8 am to 1 pm., if you stay for the duration of the Meetup.

It was nice to meet the two new ladies, we had a good time, because we were separated from everyone else in close quarters, so we could visit. We bagged up elbow macaroni and Rice Krispies, and stayed about 3 hours. It was an amazing amount of packaging we were staring at , at the end of our "shift". Thanks to all who went! Pat yourself on the back for an unselfish act.

The last food bank we went to suggested gloves, close toed shoes, and sleeves on your shirt. I'm not sure those "rules" apply here. I think what we are doing is "bagging" up pinto beans and rice into one pound bags. I will call Jesse, tomorrow, and get some more particulars.

Anything particular I need to know about shoes, clothes, hats, etc? I volunteered at a homeless shelter in Mpls. and there were restrictions and a "dress code" so to speak.
