Closures pop cork on wine bar sector consolidation
Several pioneers in the local wine bar scene that opened in the past decade are hanging up their corkscrews.
The Tasting Room location in Midtown, which opened in 2005, closed Jan. 1. Now the Wine Bucket Boutique & Bar, which opened in 2001, is slated to close Jan. 24 and The Corkscrew, which opened in 2006, is closing Feb. 9.
Owners at the three locations say the wine bar market segment is in the midst of a major shift and heading toward further consolidation.
