life skills: urban cycle skills

what we are doing

(This 6 hour class is over 2 days. Part 2 will be on the 20th April, 9am - 12pm)

If you’ve recently rediscovered your enthusiasm for cycling and would appreciate some hints and tips on how to make safe on-road journeys, an Urban cycle skills clinic may be the thing for you.  This first 3 hour session will help you get to know your bike again and covers bike handling skills and also an introduction to cycling in traffic in real on road conditions.

what you will learn

Based in Bikeability training!

In Part 1 of this training you will learn to control and master your bike. This part of the training takes place in a traffic-free environment away from cars – in a school playground. We will cover things like riding in a straight line, shoulder checking and emergency braking.
In Part 2 of this training you will get out on the roads! Part 2 gives you real cycling experience so that you are able to deal with traffic on short journeys and in real conditions. We will cover things like where to ride on the road and how to negotiate intersections.

Will this course be run again later in the year? I'm just in the process of learning to ride a bike (ah yes a bit late in my 40's I know!) so not quite ready for this but would love to do it a bit later on.

Hi, sorry to disappoint you, but it isn't Ian doing the course, but his wife Ruth. I always forget that it is Ian's login that automatically comes up when we register for anything. I am looking forward to the course and to meeting the other participants. Thanks Ruth
