professional development: speak up!

what we are doing

Ever been put on the spot? Lost for words? We'll take you through some basics of public speaking, with a bent towards things you might find useful in an interview, for example getting to the point, structuring your answer.

You'll have a try with a little bit of impromptu speaking so you can practise. Don't be afraid! Everyone will be in the same boat.

what you will learn

You'll learn to think about what to say when put on the spot: how to construct a coherent answer to get your point across.

You'll also learn a little about what Toastmasters has to offer if you are thinking of joining a club or coming along to a Speechcraft course to take your public speaking talent further.

skill required Beginner

your chalkler will be

Erin - I've been a toastmaster for 2 1/2 years and am a Distinguished Toastmaster. I belong to four clubs, one of which specialises in running classes to teach people public speaking.

how to get there

Cross the carpark at Lawson Place. At the end you will find 3 paths. On the right a private path. On the left the Southern Walkway. Take the small path downhill in the middle. 200 meters after you will find a small white house with gardens around

our cancellation policy
If you RSVP for a class and fail to show up, you will get a "no show". Three no shows means you will be removed from chalkle°. You may request to rejoin after six months.
If you cancel your RSVP:
- less than 3 days before = no refund
- after 7pm the night before = no refund and a "no show" will be recorded

Hi, could anyone possibly give me a lift? I'm based in Newlands, but I can get into town if it's easier...just don't think I can walk all the way up Marjoribanks St and have any energy left (-:

Hi Kate, I catch a #2 bus to Miramar. If I get off at the stop just before the Haitaitai bus tunnel it is a short flat walk to Innermost through the bowling greens. There is a suitable bus leaving Wellington Station at 2.25pm on Sunday. See you there, Rosalind
