  • what we are doing

I am going to teach people how to make CHAKALAKA, a famous dish from South Africa. You will also learn to make MIELIEPAP, another staple food from South Africa.

Born in the townships of South Africa, chakalaka is a simple, spicy dish of onions, tomatoes and often beans. It has been a staple for generations of black South Africans, and is a required condiment at South African braais, or barbecues. And what a fun name!

So come along, and prepare to enjoy.

    what you will learn

A bit of history about the food from South Africa. You will learn about the staple diet of the South African people, and walk away with some great ideas for bbqs in the future.

Hi all. I am Levi Roberts, an expat South African in NZ. My passion is cooking, and I often miss the food from back home. There are also many South Africans in Wellington, but I have never even shared a South African meal with any of them, neither with anyone else. So, I figured that it was time I shared some of my culture with all interested parties.
