what we are doing

The newspapers are full of the pleasures and perils of sugar at the moment. I will outline the historical context to this debate and also show you the current research behind the claims. I will cover the metabolism of sugar and the differences between natural and refined sugars. I will also set the talk in the context of our ongoing health.

The class will be 60 mins with 10-15 mins for questions and tea available afterwards.

Please note - this class is a timebank fundraiser, and there is a recommended Koha of $10 or more if people can afford, or you can pay with timebank credits, if you are a member (if not, enquire about joining!)

Marion is a consultant physician at Wellington Hospital with a particular interest in nutrition and exercise as medicine for both prevention and treatment of diseases. She has almost completed a post graduate diploma in education, so she has skills in teaching. She is really keen to up-skill people in making healthy choices for themselves and their families especially when we are bombarded with what seems like conflicting information.

    Thank you Marion for a well presented , informative talk. You were great to listen to and even though I am well read there was plenty for me to take away.
    Should anyone be interested in learning more about some of the other topics mentioned but not discussed (not possible in one hour) there is an awesome all day seminar coming up in Wellington on 9 June. The presenters are interactive (like Marion) and they explain more about the fats, fibre, grain and dairy etc and give excellent information on how we should be eating for good health. I attended their seminar in Christchurch and it was fabulous and I will be attending this one too. The information given compliments Marion's talk very well and backs up her message whilst adding additional information on other aspects of nutrition.
