Yes Sue, I also thought something similar the other day and I was thinking how can I manage to combine new students with more experienced ones. Sending the list before the class is a good idea, especially the basics page that I give always to the new ones, so they can have a look before coming to the class. I also have a couple of ideas but I need to develop them...I'll let you know!

* I don't think the lessons can be both a conversation class for people who know some Spanish as well as a class for beginners.
* As a beginner, I think one needs SOME grammar to learn the language. Pick a couple of simple structures, and let the learners practice them until they know them well. In real life, you don't repeat yourself over and over, but in a language lesson, you have to
*Send the vocabulary list out before the class, so that the beginners can practice the vocabulary at the lesson.
