An evening looking at the night sky, including using the Carter telescope, and a wander around the Carter Observatory exhibition (planetarium show included!)
what you will learn
Basic Astronomy- how to use a star map, finding/observing the planets and where to look, where to find some important and easy constellations and stars. How to do some celestial navigation and some features of the moon. Cross fingers to see some shooting stars! If it is a clear night, we could go and look at the planets/moon/star clusters in the Thomas Cooke telescope at Carter.

Becky is a presenter and educator at Carter Observatory, and an amateur astronomer since she was a teenager and would often sneak out in the night to watch the stars.
When Elf isn't being a space pirate, he works at the Carter Observatory, and in his day job he is a PhD student at the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology where he researches nanopore technology. In other words, using very, very small holes to study very very small particles such as viruses, DNA or proteins.
what to bring
No equipment needed, but if anyone has binoculars that would be good and a red torch to help you see the star chart.

our cancelation policy
If you RSVP for a class and fail to show up, you will get a "no show". Three no shows means you will be removed from chalkle. You may request to rejoin after six months.
If you cancel your RSVP:
- more than seven days = refund minus 10% admin fee.
- less than 7 days = no refund, and restricted from this class for three months.
- after 7pm night before = no refund, class restriction, and a no show will be recorded.
