Skepticon 6! the largest FREE skeptic conference in the nation.

Lauren Lane, Organizer Extraordinaire, says "Skepticon is an annual skeptic/freethinker/atheist/awesome conference that is held annually in Springfield, MO.

"It is the mission of Skepticon to support, promote, and develop free-thought  skeptic, and scientific communities through inclusive educational programming.

"…which is really a fancy way of saying we all get together to share ideas, knowledge, and high fives.

"Skepticon is also the largest FREE skeptic conference in the nation, and quite possibly the universe*. We accomplish this through a small team of dedicated workers, the help of a great many amazing volunteers, and of course–the support of people like you!

"We also enforce a harassment policy as it’s important to Skepticon that any and everyone feel welcome.

"*we have PZ Myers working on verifying this"

Great time, even though there were a few harassment issues and even gun threats!!! :)

At 3am, an attendee at a restaurant waved a gun in the face of a speaker and threatened to shoot him. Friends intervened and diffused the situation.

The hotel, the police, and the conference organizers know who it was, and they made sure he was expelled from the conference and left the city.

Here's the official description of the event from the affected speaker:

Some really good speakers; however, the lectures were primarily atheistic centered. Although, I am an Atheist, I was really hoping for more diversity in topics (e.g., psychic, ghost, and alternative medicine).

Shockingly I might be able to make it this weekend, as soon as I finish my work for the week. Hope to see you all there! But really, you don't ask a biologist to search for skeptics conferences in the universe... you ask an astronomer! ;-)

According to the official schedule, looks like our own Ben is giving a session at 11am on Friday (Room A), based on a talk he gave last year at Skepticamp. Awesome!

Any debates must be taken to the forum. This is a space for event planning.
