Skeptics in the Park!

April's Skeptics in the Park was a great success, so we're going to have another one this year. We have a great space this year, so Skeptics in the Park will take place on August 26th rain or shine. Invite family members and friends for picnic fun and festivities throughout the day at Tower Grove Park.

Guests can begin to check in at 11 a.m. Grilled hot dogs, burgers, and chicken (vegetarian options will be provided) will be served between 12 and 1 p.m. Some picnic sides will be available, but guests can bring additional sides or treats in pot-luck fashion if you wish! Non-alcoholic drinks will also be served, but guests are welcome to bring their own drinks (no glass bottles, please, due to park regulations).

Adults and children alike are welcome to participate in optional scheduled activities. Play equipment and ample space will be available for outdoor activities (such as frisbee or bocceball), and people may also hang out throughout the day at the picnic area.

We will be at the Turkish Pavilion right at the center of the Park!

We will have volleyball nets, tug of war, grilled foods and cool drinks, and more!
You might want to bring:
Cooler, Drinks of your choosing (no glass bottles, please, due to park regulations)
Snacks, side dishes, desserts (for yourself, or to share)
Lawn chairs, picnic blankets, sun screen, insect repellent
Outdoor games/ sports equipment of your own

Cost: $10 requested donation per person. Feel free to wait and pay at the park. And it is only a request; if it would make the difference between you coming and not coming, don't worry about it.

Wish folks would have been more welcoming to newcomers. Unfortunately, we find this all too often when trying to become a part of something we are new to. Sad part is, we rarely feel welcome enough to go again.

When I went to my first event of all skeptics, I was amazed at how unfriendly they are. Then I figured out they are not rude, just introverts. I have learned skeptics and atheists are sometimes the science geek type. I wonder if one reason extroverts seem to be more likely to be theists is the extroverts want to go to church to be around people, then when, for example, they are maybe told 100 times non-Christians are going to hell, they believe the church.

Thanks for reminding us we need to be more friendly. You are right.

Thanks, Mike and Jill. I'm an introvert too. Had Chrissie not been there, we wouldn't have known a soul.

Don't worry, Dave, I've got some bad ass twin eleven year olds coming - they'll protect you.

The Americans United For Separation Of Church and State are having their picnic the same day! At about the same time. I guess I'll let my fellow rationalists know about both picnics, and let them decide where to go. This sounds like fun, but I'm going to go to the AU picnic. Kathleen

Unfortunately, we booked the pavilion for that day a while ago before we knew that was going on then. If we had known, we probably would have tried to avoid the conflict. Thanks for helping get the word out.

No, the AU events is at Tilles Park, south of the Ethical Society on McKnight.
