At 7PM, Jim Lippard will be giving a talk entitled "The Decline and (Probable) Fall of the Church of Scientology." His talk will give some highlights of the Church of Scientology's history, its doctrines, and recent events that seem to indicate an accelerating decline in the organization. He will also be doing a live e-meter demo with the same model of e-meter that L. Ron Hubbard used to use.
Jim Lippard is an author and skeptical activist. He founded Pheonix Skeptics in 1985 and also served as editor of The Arizona Skeptic and webmaster for the Skeptics Society. He has authored many magazine and journal articles, including "Scientology v. the Internet: Freedom of Speech and Copyright Infringement on the Information Super-Highway" and "The Decline and (Probable) Fall of the Scientology Empire!", both of which were published in Skeptic magazine.
After the talk, things are a little more social. We hang out and have interesting conversations until late at night. People with all sorts of different backgrounds show up, so no matter what you're interested in talking about, you should be able to find someone else who's passionate about it.
We will be upstairs in the loft. Food is included in the cost of reserving the room, so I'm ordering a variety of food (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) for everyone to share. Please help yourself.
