Hello all, (I know many of the recipients of this may not be in the RI/MA area, but if you know of anyone who is and may be interested in attending and showing their support for us, please forward this to them.) The National Organization of Marriage (N.O.M.) is holding a "Marriage Day" At Aldrich Mansion in Warwick RI on Sunday August[masked] (that's this coming Sunday!). Here: http://www.nomri.... _Aldrich_Mansion.htm As you may or may not know NOM is a conservative organization dedicated to defining marriage as between a man and a woman. In the eyes of the GLBT community (and many other secular groups), marriage should be defined as something more: a legally binding commitment between two loving adults, regardless of their gender, both as an expression of their love for each other and their mutual legal protection and benefit. In order to protest NOM's stance, there will be a small group of humanists attending the NOM event to stage a protest outside the property of Aldrich Mansion. Later on, some of us may choose to go inside the event to PEACEFULLY, RESPECTFULLY AND COURTEOUSLY partake in the wedding renewal ceremony. We want to make our presence known, but we do not want to give them a legitimate reason to throw us out. Marriage Equality Rhode Island (M.E.R.I.) will also be there - this protest is separate and apart from MERI's protest. We have only 3 days to organize this. WHO: Any supportive GLBT or supportive straight persons are invited to join us in the protest. WHO ELSE: Any supportive GLBT married couples or straight married couples (or even single people!) are invited to join us as, later on, we enter the NOM Event at Aldrich Mansion. Basically if you are breathing and supportive of same-sex marriage, we invite you to join us! TIME: We will meet at 1:00pm WHERE: We will be meeting at the Staples plaza at the intersection of Airport and Post roads (There is a Bickford's and a Staples in the plaza) We will be making up signs/placards at the Bickford's/Staples Plaza to display to people attending the event. WHAT TO BRING: * Weather appropriate clothing, sun screen, bug repellent, bag lunch, water, etc. * If you wish, you may bring your own signs - as long as they are appropriate. * If you have children, you may bring them if you deem it appropriate - we leave that up to you LINKS: Bickford's @ Intersection of Post & Airport Rds: http://maps.googl...
