The Skeptics Society Lecture Series at Caltech: "The Evolution of God"

Hey guys, If you have never attended the Caltech Lecture Series, hosted by the Skeptics Society, you have been missing out. This series of lectures is hosted by Michael Shermer and in the past has featured speakers like Richard Dawkins and Daniel Dennett. This is a last-minute addition to the series line-up, so it wasn't included on the mailing to Skeptics Society members. However, it promises to be a great one, and so please come! *Tickets are $10 to the general public, $8 for Skeptics Society members, and are available only at the door, not in advance.* -Amanda Skeptics Special Evening Event Thursday, June 11, 7pm, Baxter Lecture Hall The Evolution of God Robert Wright Author of The Moral Animal and Nonzero In this sweeping story that takes us from the Stone Age to the Information Age, bestselling author Robert Wright unveils an astonishing discovery: there is a hidden pattern that the great monotheistic faiths have followed as they have evolved. Through the prisms of archaeology, theology, and evolutionary psychology, Wright's findings overturn basic assumptions about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and are sure to cause controversy. He explains why spirituality has a role today, and why science, contrary to conventional wisdom, affirms the validity of the religious quest. And this previously unrecognized evolutionary logic points not toward continued religious extremism, but future harmony. Robert Wright introduced the world to evolutionary psychology through his wildly popular bestselling book The Moral Animal: Why We Are the Way We Are. His most controversial book, Nonzero: The Logic of Human Destiny, put forth the theory that human evolution and the history of civilization contain within them an inevitable trend toward more and more win-win nonzero game exchanges between people and groups that has led humans to dominate the planet. In his new book, The Evolution of God, Wright reveals his new theory about the power of globalization and cultural integration.

Loved the talk - content was stimulating and speaker used humor effectively. I paid no attention to the number of attendees, so just ignore whatever number I estimated above.

Bob Wright is great - I just joined Skeptics today, immediately got e-mail regarding this event, which I was unaware of, and I am thrilled for opportunity to see one of my favorite authors speak! I thought I would only be able to see him talk about his new book on the East Coast.
