Feed Your Brain: Darwin Day Pt. 2, The Revisionaries [No Host Event]

Special Film Presentation for Darwin Day
The Revisionaries

A special showing of the award-winning documentary The Revisionaries will be a part of CFI-L.A.’s annual celebration of Darwin’s birthday on Feb. 12. In this documentary directed and co-produced by Scott Thurman, the theory of evolution and a re-writing of U.S. history face off when an avid creationist seeks re-election as chairman of the Texas State Board of Education. That board is the nation’s most influential one that rewrites the teaching and textbook standards for the state and which affects all other states.

On the film’s Web site, Thurman comments, “As I continued to seek intimate access to a few people that were heavily involved, I was drawn to the magnetic personality of Don McLeroy, chairman of the board, and outspoken creationist on a mission to convince the public and next generation of students that evolution is not sound science and that America is exceptional in part because it was founded on Christian principles. After a year of efforts to gain access, Don slowly opened up to me, eventually allowing me full access to his personal life at work, in his fourth grade Sunday school class and in his home.”

The showing of The Revisionaries, which won the Special Jury Award at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, will be followed by general discussion.

As frustrating as it was to watch, The Revisionaries did a decent job of highlighting how fragile the process is that dictates how US public school books are compiled and authored. As usual, great discussions afterwards!

Not attending. Looks Great. Found it on the internet. Too many other events today. I'm heading out to Pasadena. But I also hope the Climate Change gathering downtown is well attended. - Gary
