Bring friends and family and join us for a fun afternoon of chatting, games and eating in the great outdoors. We have 12 acres within KC city limits near Longview Lake, a bonfire, picnic and other large tables and some chairs, and some outdoor games, (Polish horseshoes, washer toss, horse shoes.) Please bring a pot of soup with serving ladle to put on the campfire and share, or some bread or dessert. Also bring chairs. Tea, water, cups, plates, bowls, plastics spoons & forks, will be provided. (For those of you who also want to cook a hamburger for yourselves, we will have a grill. BYOB if you wish.) If you have outdoor or board games which you would like to bring, please do so. Bring you musical instruments and jam on the deck

what a great group of people. Sorry that the weather was not what they had been predicting, but I think those who came had fun. A couple of people suggested that we do something out here July 4th, because we have such a panoramic view of the city, including Lee's Summit, Longview Lake, Grandview and south KC. We will see. Thanks to everyone for helping put everything away.

Weather cleared up after 2 p.m, so I rode my bike to Marlys and Gene's from Overland Park (20 miles) which made for a great weekly ride for me. Hills from College Blvd/Red Bridge off State Line all the way to Blue Ridge Rd were were awesome (about 7 miles) and I was tired as hell. The soups were great and welcome refueling. The bonfire was very nice and I basked and dried in its heat. Jesse's cabbage cheese bacon soup was awesome! Gene showed off his bows and we did some shooting. Great talks and companionship. Seems like folks were fascinated with discussion of Isaac Asimov's "I, Robot" series of stories. Mrs. Iggy came and picked me up - some folks saw I was not lying that I was married :o)

Yes, Mrs Iggy is real. Not an imaginary friend. There will even be pictures Rajesh said he would load them on the Meetup page, for those who want to see the evidence.

Marlys & Gene - Thanks for hosting this; I had a great time! So nice to have that cozy fire, good food and lively conversation on a dreary day. And thanks to Gene for introducing me to string golf :-)

Gilbert has to work, so it doesn't look like we'll be coming. Have a nice time.

Sadly, I don't think we can attend. Aracely woke up with a sore throat, fever and body ache. I also feel that I am going down the same path as well. I don't want to pass my sickness to anyone. At least we have about 12 lb of chicken that we can make soup with. I am bumped that we miss this gathering. I was so looking forward to it.

Sorry you cannot make it. There are going to be several other similar events being held this summer.

I think I'm going to have to opt for the thing at the Nelson. Sorry if this complicates things for you... Hopefully things will work out sometime this summer... Have fun...

We are not doing anything with the Nelson. I think you posted this to the wrong place.

It stopped raining. The clouds are suppose to be gone by 3. It should be nice weather, but a ground may be a little soggy.

Maybe, depends on Gil's work load.

Come if you can. We will have plenty of room. I think that the weather is cooperating. Don't forget your chairs and something to share. (food)

Since you guys have a grill, I will bring some marinated ribs and chicken to share. It will be a good compliment to the soup.

Thanks....It looks like we will have about 30 and I would add a few more.

I might bring a guest, Mary Euston.
See you around 5:45. I'll bring a dessert. Thanks!

I have a keyboard which we can run eletricity to and play on the deck. Also a guitar. If the comedy folks want to do a routine, that is an option too. I have one microphone and loud speaker.

You do not have to arrive at any certain time, so if the kids need to take their naps before coming that is no problem. We will start serving soup about 5. If anyone has a large water jug, please bring that. I only have one, so it would be helpful to have two.

Anyone bringing any musical instruments? Anyone has djembe drums? They are very hypnotic and perfect to be played next to a bon fire. I have 2 of them, and am tempted to bring them. But I am a somewhat novice player.
