This goes to how knowldge is claimed to be derived. The religous main claim is umistakenly "divine" revelation. Given how many ways of unreliable personal experiences which are divine revelations part of it shoudl be a no brainer for the religious to apply the same reasoning to their faith they use to deny others.

Today I had a 2 hour conversation with 3 Catholic protesters at Planned Parenthood by my office. It's clear some of them know what "epistomology" is in principle but when I started drilling it with them some absolutely bizarre things came up. One of them admitted to me that faith in the Invisible Pink Unicorn is akin to faith in god - belief in things unseen but hoped for.

There is much more to say about this chat, but I had a long evening bike ride tonight and I am pooped. Maybe later.

Really?!?! Granted, I have never had a near death experience, but I am certain that there is a drug on the streets called "dmt", which is a synthetic derivative of the adrenaline that gets shot to your brain just before you die. I have heard of the hallucinations that this drug creates and it sounds very similar to the surreal descriptions she gave in her NDE. Seeing as the subconscious has ways of playing tricks on our conscious, wouldn't it be possible that the sense of smell is one of the oldest tricks our subconscious knows? I have epilepsy and one of the "auras" I have is that I end up smelling mothballs, sure enough, as soon as there is that scent I do everything to prepare for a seizure. Medically speaking people have the seizure before the physical convulsions take over the body. Simply a misfiring of neurons in the brain. Now when your body shuts down and your brain is all you have working for you, what neurons are fired there? How long can a brain outlast a resting heart? More than anything, I wonder, does heaven smell like chocolate chip cookies or a men's locker room? I would like to have a deeper discussion about NDE's with anyone if they would be interested.
