Speaker Series: Five Myths About Airport Security

"A Reason for Reason" skeptical speaker series, in association with CFI, kicks off 2014 by looking out for your safety... Please join us and tell fellow critical thinkers!

Five Myths about Airport Security

At some point in the past twelve years, the U.S. government’s war on terror crossed a threshold -- from working to prevent another major terrorist attack on American soil to being a voracious counter-terrorism-industrial complex that to a large extent exists for its own sake.

Nothing demonstrates this better than the Transportation Security Administration. Since its inception in November 2001, the TSA has neither prevented a terrorist from taking down a passenger plane nor failed to prevent such an attempt.

In this talk, Richard E. Wackrow, author of the recent book Who’s Winning the War on Terror, will demonstrate how the TSA’s highly touted “layered security measures” aren't making airline passengers much safer than before 9/11. He will also examine how and why the probability of another major terrorist attack has been consistently and woefully left out of the security-vs.-liberty equation.

About the Speaker:

Richard Wackrow is a retired print journalist living in Montana. He was a reporter and editor for suburban newspapers in several markets, and has written for the Dallas Morning News, Entrepreneur magazine and other major publications. In 2013, he received the Skeptic’s Toolbox In the Trenches Award for his efforts in introducing the war on terror to the skeptics community. His meticulously researched first book, Who’s Winning the War on Terror, is available on Amazon and BarnesandNoble. He will have books at the event for sale and signing.

WHEN: 7:30 PM, Thursday, January 30, 2014 (Talk starts at 8 PM sharp)

WHERE: Downstairs at Kells Irish Pub, 530 Jackson Street, San Francisco, CA 94133
