WHAT: "Skepticism in Turkey: Promoting Critical Thinking in an Ancient Land"
Promoting critical thinking is challenging everywhere, but it is even harder where there are deeply rooted superstitions, widespread denial of science, and political pressures on freedom of speech. Dr. Arican will explore the growing skeptical movement and challenges of being a Turkish Skeptic.
WHO: Dr. Isil Arican, MD
Graduated from Ege University School of Medicine in Turkey and earned a MS in Healthcare Administration at CSU Eastbay. She founded Yalansavar, a well-known Turkish skeptical website. She contributes to a popular science webzine, Acik Bilim, as an author and editor. Dr. Arican also volunteers at TED Talks as a translator.
