The beautiful Conservatory Gardens

Our annual tradition: Central Park's beautiful conservatory gardens in spring. If you've never been there, you'll be astounded. We'll visit all 3 gardens: Italian, British, French. I've timed this so hopefully the wisteria will be out. We'll meet at the entrance, at 105th and 5th avenue. See you then!

Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at [masked]

What makes our Meetups different from other art groups and classes? There's no instruction, but we like to share our work, and chat and be inspired. Share tips and learn from people in a casual environment where all levels of artists are welcome! Don't be shy to ask anyone anything!

• We sketch for a bit, usually 45 minutes or so, and then get back together and share our drawings, and then sketch again, etc. There's usually time for 3 or 4 sketches.

• Feel free to bring any media you like to work with - pens, pencil, watercolor, pastel, small sketchbook or large paper, iPad, whatever suits you.

• We hand out nametags so everyone can meet one another!

• We take photos to share on the site later. Bring your camera!

• The event will last three hours.

• This Meetup is FREE and everyone at all skill levels is welcome!

In case of rain, I will let people know early in the morning if it is canceled, and then reschedule for another day.

Looking forward to sketching with you!

Lovely day, small but choice group; garden itself between seasons and pretty well beaten-up by yesterday's heavy rain. Onward!

I will be out of town next week so someone else can go, already on a train to the city so I will take my chances with the weather and still paint at the gardens today!

Now that it's sunny, I feel guilty about pushing for a quick decision, especially since I won't be able to make it to another meetup until September. Thanks, Jesse, for all the wonderful meetups this past year. Have a great summer, everyone. I uploaded some photos I took at the gardens this morning...

    • Jesse R.

Thanks, Roz. It was sunny when you posted that, but now it's pouring. You never know. Hopefully we'll have more stable weather next week.

Hey everyone - I was waiting to see if it cleared up, but it's still misty here and everything is soaked. If we went, there would be nowhere to sit. Thanks for understanding; I've pushed the meetup to next week, when hopefully we'll have better luck.

Thanks. Always a tough call but it makes sense. Since people were a little confused I think as a practice notifying in either case is a good idea and maybe set a timeframe like 2 hours earlier.

Thanks for the update...it is soggy out there...looking forward to next week!

I will still be going to the park, though later since Accuweather predicts partial sun after 2. Prior to the park, during the rainier period, I'm going to the Anders Zorn at the National Academy Museum,[masked]th ave. near 90th St. (thank you Janette for the heads up).
Anyone care to join me, I still look like that photo so feel free to introduce yourself.

I agree with Kathryn -- it would be nice to know, either way, whether we will be meeting this morning. Chance of showers is now 40%...

I'm on waitlist, and would LOVE to come. Do you notify waitlisted individuals if they make it to the real list?

    May 4

    • Jesse R.

Yes, if someone from the regular list cancels their RSVP, the next person on the Waiting List will be bumped up to a spot, and will receive an email notifying them.

I joined a different sketching group in the fall and winter and I was told wonderful things about this group. I am an artist, writer, and art historian, retired art teacher, pottery buff.

  • Jill S.

If I am included, I will probably arrive a bit late as I have a tennis game every Sat morning in Queens. Will I be able to catch up to the group?

  • Jill S.

This sounds like a wonderful, creative, lovely environment for for the bloom of visual rewards. I am looking forward to sharing this experience with all in this group and hope we can all grow artistically together. I am excited!!! Hope I am included as I am on the wait list, but hopefully I will meet you next time if I am too late for this meet up.
